Small/Compact Phones - best for hiding. (4)

You live in a house where youre abused everyday. You do leave the house for errands and college but you aren't often alone. You don't have a phone, car, anything in your name.

You have an opporunity to get a phone that you can use to call shelters/abuse hotlines and make a plan to get out. But you must be able to hide it.

Lets assume you don't have cargo shorts or any heavy baggy clothing either.

What is the best phone for this situation?
Thanks for your thoughts

An old Nokia for sure. Those things are small and nearly indestructible. They are also very cheap and it you get a prepaid burner phone it should be able to get you thru the situation without having to set up a contract, don’t know if this helped but good luck

How would an old phone like that get service? I would have to sign up for it, right? like a monthly thing?

Or is there like a prepaid card that will work for the old phones still? that doesn't require signing up or anything?

Imagine its a perfect movie scene and when you get the phone its already active and ready to call for help when you turn it on.

Thats not exactly how it has to be but I can buy a phone and the straighttalk monthly minutes out of walmart and not have to talk to anyone. If I wanted sprint service I'd have to sign up, know what I mean?

This was one of the reasons I made the "Informing the Consumer" thread on Missions (https://dollars-bbs.org/missions/res/1590335147.html).

In your case, the BEST thing you can do is find a cheap unlocked LTE phone off Amazon and buy a BYOP SIM Card off Tracfone Wireless - since it's the cheapest option (provided you live in the United States). However, there is another option that would also work (though not as well).

1. Purchase this: https://shop.straighttalk.com/shop/en/straighttalk/mobilebroadbands/st-franklin-mobile-hotspot-f900hsvl

2. Purchase an iPod Touch.

Assuming you have a Gmail account, you can get a phone number through Google Voice and make free calls/texts to anyone in the US and Canada over a WiFi connection. This means when you are on your home network, you can do all this quite easily; but when you are away from home, you need either a public WiFi network or a mobile hotspot like the one above.

So, for this to work, you would activate the mobile hotspot, set up its portable WiFi, and connect the iPod Touch to it. Then, you would install the Google Voice app and configure it to "Make and Receive Calls Over WiFi."

Calls usually use 1 MB per minute. Be mindful that because it's mobile data, other apps on the iPod touch can use data as well, so you would want to turn off background data on ALL nonessential apps while doing this.
