Incomprehensible Technology! (4)

1 Name: MadelineAriah !YYk5m0jo12 : 2020-05-21 07:13 ID:PekpeCu9 [Del]

Technology has changed so much over the years, and so have our needs as tech users! This thread is where we can list our essential applications - things we use every day and would absolutely be screwed without.
Post Format:
-Application Name - Operating System/Device
-Short description of what it does and how you use it regularly. (Try to keep it under a paragraph.)
I would say list up to five applications per post, and up to three posts total. More than that might get carried away! Also, try to keep the obvious ones (Twitter, Discord, Facebook, Steam, Web Browsers) to a minimum. We all know how those work already.

MadelineAriah's Application List!

#1: Google Voice - Android, iOS, Web
Despite being around for years in various iterations, most people are unaware that having a Gmail account means you can get a free phone number! (In the US and Canada; sorry rest of the world.) It allows you to make free calls and texts over your Wi-Fi connection (Again, US and Canada. For international calling, there are surcharges.) My primary cell phone is set to auto-forward calls to my GV number when my cell signal is low - so I never miss a call. I've even turned an iPod Touch into a working smartphone this way.

#2: Google Pay - Android, iOS, Web
There are several advantages to Google Pay over PayPal. You can send and receive money in various countries at no surcharge. It's good for P2P transactions when you want to avoid PayPal's absurd fees. Also, being able to pay with your phone at stores, restaurants and even gas stations is awesome. You do need a phone with an NFC chip, though.

#3: Kdenlive - Windows, Mac, Linux
This is a free/open-source video editor with plenty of editing functions available. All of my YouTube videos are being created using it.

#4: Audacity - Windows, Mac, Linux
This is a free/open-source audio editor with both recording and editing functions. It's literally the backbone of my video production.

#5: Ampere - Android
This app has multiple functions related to your phone's battery. It can show the charge rate and discharge rate in milliamps, the voltage, the battery temperature, and more. It's very useful if you need to diagnose bad charging cables or overheating issues on your phone.

Finally some good fucking thread format! On Tech board even! Folks, this is how you made a thread.

Shazam - Android, iOS, Mac
This app helps you recognize a music title that plays in your surroundings. Let's say that you're in a supermarket and some music you instantly fell in love with is playing in the background. Just open this app and let it listen for a few second, the song's title will be delivered to you soon after.

Ignore my grammar :P
