My laptop keep restarting PLEASE HELP! (27)

1 Name: VictorMazza : 2017-12-02 15:36 ID:/xmHQuNk [Del]

I just bought a new laptop so I don't have much things on it yet. After a few days as i was watching vids on youtube, my laptop restarted itself cause some error occurred. I have windows 10. Atm, i can't do anything on my laptop cause it'll eventually restart itself again and again.
Please let me know if you know how to fix this, thank you.

Same. Win10, watching YT, using chrome.

We should share our specs and compare. My best guess is the "hardware acceleration" option in the chrome browser has something to do with it, but I haven't been able to prove it yet.

I had the same problem, but it stopped. It is maybe because of youtube?

Just crashed again using youtube. This time with hardware acceleration disabled. Really thought I solved this ;-;

Does it go to bios first or just suddenly restarts? or it'll restart after a blue screen? or after loading up windows?

>>6 Video freezes with an audio stutter, before going to bLue screen, then a black screen when it powers off instantly, (all within a couple seconds) Finally, it'll boot itself up like normal with no warnings or attempted repairs.

Hmmm. Check your device manager if there is any conflict with the drivers, or your fan is working, or if there is too much dusk in your computer/laptop that it overheats.

Device manager doesn't bring up any conflicts. I dust my case every couple months. My fans are all functional.

In looking at the event viewer, I came across a couple concerning events, but nothing specific.

I just applied a windows update for amd devices, and haven't had it crash since. I'll report if that changes.

I think there is somebody with the same problem. They commented the weekly discussion thread on random. They said they have a new HP laptop, windows 10 and it shuts down and restarts by itself.

(Sorry to interrupt your conversation)

>>11 I haven't had any trouble since a windows update for amd devices. Are you still experiencing issues?

13 Name: FindMuck !MrEff/SKhc : 2017-12-17 08:22 ID:7PVgyaRp [Del]

Aaaand my PC just crashed while streaming robocraft on twitch. I had chrome open, so maybe? But tbh, when do I NOT have chrome open?

Either way, if our problems are related, it has yet to be solved.

Dude it usually because of the updates or the antivirus, try to stop the win 10 update for a little while or

>>14 That doesn't help if the issue is already present. What you said isn't really accurate either.

My best guess at this point is something allowing it to overheat without reacting quickly enough to dissipate it.

Have yet to have it crash while using my own fan curve via msi afterburner.

>>15 why dont you buy a new laptop?

17 Name: Sid!MYwXno9Hgc : 2017-12-22 04:26 ID:gilUwa78 [Del]

>>15 if you think it is the temps you can download something like HWmonitor. I use it for OC purposes, but it shows the status of the hardware on your system. If it is overheating then I suggest getting a cooling fan pad/stand. Laptops aren't designed to dissipate a lot of heat very well, mine has the same heat sink attached to the CPU and GPU on one fan. Another reason why I dislike laptops.

You also mentioned it stopped after updating the AMD stuff through windows update. Try updating through the AMD website instead. I hate it when win10 updates my graphics drivers, as it only installs the drivers and uninstalls my NVidia control panel. In short I don't even know what my GPU settings are without the control panel.

It's desktop, the case has 4 fans including the GPU's. I have hwmonitor. Also it didn't actually stop after the update, just didn't happen gain for a while. I choose to get graphics driver updates from windows, because the amd software always uses it as a different card than it is. It's an amd r7 450, but If I use amd drivers, they mark it as an r9 3somethingM, which it's not.

Also, screw >>16 for suggesting I buy new hardware as if it solves the issue.

20 Name: Sid!MYwXno9Hgc : 2017-12-23 11:40 ID:UYV5W1r7 [Del]

>>18 I don't have an amd card, but nvidia. There is an autodetect and a manual option for finding the drivers. I never use the autodetect either, as I think it takes longer.

You said it stopped for a little when updating the drivers too. When Windows updates my graphics drivers I have games crash more, no sli option, and I can't control the graphics settings at all. One time Windows changed the resolution as well. Yet when I download my drivers through nvidia none of that happens.

The card might be getting old too, depending on the quality and manufacturer. I had a evga card and it gave out few months after the warranty was up. I read people having the same issues with evga cards at the time too.

Another possible reason could be that your system is underpowered. Did you get a good enough psu? The output usually drops about 5-15%, if I recall right, under load. If your system is underpowered the components heat up faster and easier.

That's the shittiest part, it's an off-the-shelf PC that's just over a year old. it should just work.

> Windows 10

I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do for you. May God have mercy on your soul.

23 Name: Sid!MYwXno9Hgc : 2017-12-29 02:27 ID:gilUwa78 [Del]

It might just be windows 10. I still recommend to manually find and download drivers from the AMD website. Also to boost performance you can use powershell to uninstall the pre-installed windows app running in the background, like people, weather, news, etc.

If it is restarting and the only thing you are doing is watching YouTube videos, then it might be your OS. If you are lucky and have a disk with Windows on it, then try factory resetting it and reinstalling Windows. Only factory resetting it won't do much, as I can guess that the issue is with the OS itself. That means that a FULL wipe and clean install might fix your problem. If you have $100, then you can take it to a Best Buy and they will do it for you.

Just download windows 10 and then copy a windows code and paste it.

26 Name: Sunny : 2018-01-25 11:38 ID:yfQQ9T5j [Del]

Did you buy Windows or did you pirate it?

27 Name: FindMuck !MrEff/SKhc : 2018-01-25 18:08 ID:7PVgyaRp [Del]

Funny enough, I got an ssd for xmas and ended up doing a clean install. But the problem has happened once since then. It almost happened twice, but my pc managed to recover before shutting off. I still don't actually know what the issue is, I started using amd drivers when I did the clean install.

Overheating is still my best guess.
