Dollars BBS Should Encrypt their HTTPS traffic (10)

There is a simple reason why. Security.

We all like to be secure, right? I propose that admin implements "Let's Encrypt". Implementing this means better end to end security and it's pretty easy to do (I've done it myself). All you really have to do it spend an afternoon setting this up. You don't even need to pay for a certificate! But saying that, you should probably donate if you have any money spare because these people drive encryption one set in front of hackers. I digress...

When using a public WiFi, it is pretty easy to intercept and look at traffic coming from someone over the other side of the room/McDonalds/Starbucks/etc when it is not encrypted and plain text. Why should we risk that when most people don't want to use slow (but fairly secure) TOR or don't have their own knowledge to set up their own VPN at home or don't have the money for that kind of service. HTTPS is fast and it's the best security for a website you'll probably receive.

Please hear me out. Setting this up will greatly benefit everyone with the piece of mind that their traffic is RSA encrypted.

Thank you for reading.

I agree. I am currently studying cryptoanalysis and it would be interesting to learn something new.

Don't we(Dollars-bbs) already have a password? You know, security?

Quick answer: No.

Longer Answer: Password sent over connections that are not encrypted are visible in plain view, so a person intercepting the traffic would find the password faster than you can say baccano. HTTPS would protect against something like that. Not to mention that the password doesn't work half the time when jumping directly to a specific thread or board. There is also the fact that the password is a Google search away.

>>1 Whilst I will always support sites implementing HTTPS for the increased security, it is not really a major concern here, as this is merely an anonymous BBS. Since there are no accounts here, only usernames and tripcodes, it is unlikely that any personal data would be stolen unless an individual user had deliberately put them online. As for the password, it's more of a vanity feature here, than meant to be used for actually preventing users from accessing the site. The admin has covered this several times, and it has been stated that the password is intended to be left as it is.

>>5 I agree somewhat, however, I would feel more safe if my government/ISP/My School/Hackers at public WiFi didn't know what I post or say here (I do not like to think that anyone at this period of time could see this message even if it is only this). This is why I strongly believe that all websites should be encrypted, not just this one. As a community we could benefit from this layer of protection, especially if the the work required is minimal. I'm not asking for something absurd here. I want to feel safe.

Dance like no one is watching. Encrypt like everyone is.

>>6 That's not really going to change anything. The password doesn't provide any security what so ever, not to mention after a week, it'll be all over the internet anyway......

>>8 Look at >>4 "Not to mention that the password doesn't work half the time when jumping directly to a specific thread or board."
