So I have an Asus ROG G750JX laptop which I've been using for 3 years now. As you would expect, 3 years has resulted in a lot of files and folders, and I'm sure a lot of unneeded logs and cached data. For the most time I just used the laptop as standard but I've recently connected it to three monitors and use it like a desktop, which I prefer wildly.
My question is this:
Im considering to a complete wipe and resetting the whole thing in a hope for some kind of performance boost. Obviously deleting files wont make the specs any better but won't having a fresh Windows 10 install be beneficial even a little? What's everyones opinions, I'm dying to know!
Love,
Your boi, Dillweed xo

I would advise against it, unless you have a bunch of random software running in the background. Especially if you don't have win10 already.

I would uninstall the preloaded background apps first. There are many apps in win10 that requires use of powershell to uninstall.

Running 3 monitors tax the GPU if you plan on doing any gaming and video editing.

If you are running 3 1920x1080 monitors, it is close to 4k (3840x2160). My desktop struggles playing the new games in 4k at high settings and I have 2 gtx strix 980's in sli.

Laptops have even less power than a desktop and can be struggling to render the amount of pixels in the 3 monitors you are using.

The triple monitors are mostly used for productivity, school work etc. Ive used some emulators on triple screen and it works fine. The laptops holding up well, just thought perhaps a refresh might squeeze a little more performance out.

It boils down to what you want to do and what performance you are talking about. Is it gaming, editing, video, file read/write, file transfer, calculations, etc.

Win10 uses a lot more resources than win7 did. I had to force uninstall a bunch of apps through powershell to reduce the impact on my system. Even with all of those uninstalled I'm using about 3.5gb RAM when idle. I practically have a fresh install as well.

If you still have maps, phone, contacts, weather, etc. This bogs your system down a little bit. Google how to uninstall these using powershell.

You can still uninstall and delete a bunch of stuff from your computer without having a fresh install. Then you could defragment your hard drives to make read+write faster.

I personally think it is a pain to do one, since you have to reinstall all of the drivers, 3rd party apps, etc. This usually takes some time to get all of the drivers and apps you are used to using. Especially win10 since I would have to force uninstall all of those preloaded apps again.

If you don't have the CPU, GPU, sound, Wifi, mobo, etc. drivers on disc or usb I would advise against a fresh install.

If everything is ok and bogs down after a little bit of use maybe a fan underneath, like a stand, would help. When things overheat they have built in safety features which usually reduce the capabilities of the computer.
