From your post, it sounds likely that your files were deleted, however due to the way deletion works on a computing system, it should still be possible to recover some of the files. The amount you can recover depends on how corrupted they have become. In any case, to recover your files, you want to make use of an 'undelete' or 'data recovery' tool.
