Hi there, I apologize if I am posting this is the wrong place, I actually haven't posted in this part of the site before. I almost put this on random.
Anyways, to get to the point, I could use a new laptop, but I am worried about getting the wrong brand or something. I know choosing a brand may depend on what exactly you want the laptop for. Well, I use it for pretty much anything, I would like it to have enough space for gaming. I think that'd be my main preference.
Really, I am no professional with computers. I am here to ask what kind of laptop I should get if any of you guys have an idea, thanks for the help.

Brand isn't nearly important as the hardware used. And when it comes to gaming, the spectrum only broadens. I suggest you poke around for yourself, and just get an idea what kind of what hardware you're looking for. Stuff like CPU, GPU, quality/quantity of ram and quality/quantity of hard drive.

As long as it isnt Acer or Hp it should last a while. Dont buy a laptop for over $1.1K, its not worth the drop off in performance. If ya gonna play mid range games make sure you have at least something like 4-8gigs of ram, and an Nvidia graphics card is highly recommended. I personally got a laptop about 5 years ago (in my ignorance it was an Acer), and it lasted about 2.5 years. Had to reformat it a couple of times. If ya select a few different models online ya can email me at dragonfolly@hotmail.co.nz with the links an ill check em out for ya.

I'd say HP or Lenovo probably gets you the best bang for your buck on a laptop. Dell seems to be a bit overpriced when it comes to laptops. Most other brands don't have as good of components in them. Also everyone I have talked to said sony laptops are crap, and they feel fragile as well.

For gaming I would recommend an alienware or asus ROG, for laptops, but those are quite pricey. You could spend the same amount, or less, and have a way better gaming desktop.

It all depends what you want out of it. I would try to find the fastest processers for gaming. I would want it to be a 4-core or higher, like an i5+ (The battery life would be longer with an i5 vs i7). I would want at least 8 gb of RAM but most likely more for gaming. The main decision for gaming is the graphics card in it.

I helped a friend recently and I found out most HP and Lenovo laptops around $700-$900 are decent, since they start to implement a separate graphics card. But without the graphics card you can get the specs I listed for about $500-$600. Yet without the graphics card, gaming capabilities are drastically reduced.

The graphics cards are usually the same between AMD and Nvidia, you get about the same performance for the same price range for the two.

I left out the hard drive since most laptops have at least 500GB total space which is more than enough if you use a client, like Steam. Unless you plan on loading a bunch of stuff on it.

Laptops get outdated a lot faster than desktops. I have a 5 year old laptop that still works fine, but newer OS's tax the computer too much. I had a desktop that is still decent for gaming that I built 4-5 years ago too.
