The Top-down and Bottom-up Artificial Intelligence (1)

1 Name: Szayne : 2016-03-23 20:58 ID:u+wozSvv [Del]

Nowadays, the term AI has been crawling up within the questions of technology for a long time now and is constantly argued whether if it's possible or not. Many computer engineers, programmers, and developers differ in their understanding and opinions of what AI really is about and mostly accept it as some series of information gathering applications that releases outputs based on analyzing acquired information. Much like if given the question A, the application would go through series of tests and analysis from its acquired information and then lists possible answers after finally choosing the most acceptable/appropriate one; this is the one called the "top-down AI", also called the Pseudo-AI.

Ex:
|main_event| then |reaction| if |certain requirements are met|, or |reaction2| if |certain requirements are met|... and so on so forth.

But the other one, the bottom-up AI, is the concept of AI that tries to replicate how the brain works and recreate "awareness" through electronic means, a consciousness construct; this can be also coined as "The True AI". Our brains has billions upon billions of brain cells that are interconnected within a biological organ which process and gives out electronic impulses to transfer, gather, interpret, and sends out information throughout the body. I'm not really particular about this since I'm not a doctor or neurologists but in my general understanding, information gathered will be transferred through different terminals in our body and instructs our organs with some kind of directives (whether to give out hormones or something like that I dunno) so that organs will act upon accordingly. Diseases and illness will happen if these information will be affected by an outside means (third-party) altering the normal transferring and gathering of information and inserting new instructions to the cells, overriding its system and causing disturbances (like Cancer that instructs normal cells to abnormally and uncontrollably override its own cell divisions). Thus the concept of a bottom-up AI is not just merely gathering information and sending appropriate responses, but also to have the ability to create its own conceptions, alter its own construction of data, and adapt to its environment while learning; recreating the human awareness.

Different from how humans vary in their understanding of their daily life situations (concepts, religion, opinions), Pseudo-AI interprets information identically basing on the programming languages used in developing it. And if you put it that way, It would be considered that each and every one of human beings are developed with different kinds of programming language in it's own right; interpreting information with much individuality. And if in such occasions that two humans have the same thing that he/she likes (like how two persons likes post-hardcore rock), it would be thought that the two humans had coincidentally had the same interpretations of the information gathered. But even so, it would not mean that the two humans had "every" information gathered be identically interpreted; there are surely some things that differ (like how one likes low and slow growls while the other one likes fast-paced high-pitch screamos/screams). The bottom-up AI tries to inevitably replicate how the humans process information using our modern-day electronic advancements but has been proved futile since it's not powerful and versatile enough to actually be on par with the complexity of the brain’s functions, the best to have an example for that is data storage. A mere terabytes could not hold such information that seems to evolve in every second it receives a new one; clustering, correcting, and rearranging its data if the updated information holds different aspects as the older one to continue functioning which may be in milliseconds apart. And to sum it up, bottom-up AIs must have identities of its own since cloning the same ones could lead to what you call “Brain Resonance”. But I believe that in one day, this barrier will be overcome with our tireless efforts and hard work.

...But also, this would mean challenging God in the fact that we are trying to create such likeness of his creations (does that mean that I'm with the devil? who knows).

PS: Once I had an interesting talk with my colleague about religion and the realm of the Divinities, halfway through the conversation we switched to the more of the modern days and cybernetic side. Between the words that came out of our mouths, there is this one particular opinion of him that I really had to take account of within my heart and brain: "I think that the real tool of satan, is technology itself". Ironically, he was studying for Mechanical Engineer, and as a Computer Engineering undergraduate and a Christian, I was astonished and intrigued by that opinion of his which made me look farther into the realm of AI and Religion. With much diggings, I found out about the Priory of Sion, the Council of Nicaea, the Malleus Maleficarum, and some Magdalena acclaims which was rather... well... will actually challenge your faith with the Lord.
