Hey, guys. My dad is having his issue and of course he has asked me to try to fix it.
His old phone is a Galaxy Note II (he uses it mostly for apps and music as he has a different phone that he uses for calls/texting) and lately it has been popping up a message saying unstable wifi connection. This causes anything that needs to use internet (I believe he notices this happen most often when using the ESPN app) to stop working because it disconnects from the wifi until it becomes stable again.
His Galaxy Note II is the only device in the house that seems to be having any issues with our wifi. I have my phone (Droid Turbo), laptop, and desktop all connected with no issues at all. My dad's actual phone (same as mine) also works with no issues as does his i-pad, my mom's phone (same as mine), their laptop, and my mom's tablet (don't remember exactly what it is but it's running android).
I've tried setting a static IP address to my dad's phone which did not work and I've tried having connect only to the 5ghz band or the 2.4ghz band to see if that would fix the issue but also that did not work as well.
I'm hoping some of you guys have some more ideas for me to try out because honestly I'm not very good at fixing issues like these ( I'm more of a software guy thus why I'm going to University for a degree in Software Engineering and not IT).
Thanks for your time everyone.

Here they say to change to a clear Wi-fi channel :

And here to forget the network and reset it on your phone, and to adapt the Wi-fi band to the conditions of your home:
