Limited connection (27)

1 Name: Deg deg : 2015-09-27 10:12 ID:XGWdOSop [Del]

I've been getting this for a while and whenever I get the connection working long enough to research it I just get those results that start with "Step one: download our app for only $17.99". Just wondering if anyone has a fix for free so I don't go needlessly spending cash? OS Windows 8.1

Wait what ?

Can you state your problem clearly ? Are you at home ?

Oh yes sorry. Occasionally when I'm using the internet I get a warning symbol next to my network connection symbol (yellow triangle with black exclamation mark). If I click for more details, where it would ordinarily say "connected" it says "Limited". If I try to run a search or go straight to a website I see the message "Webpage is not available until the problem goes away after about 15 minutes. I'm just wondering if there's a way to prevent this happening completely.

>>3 This is a problem with your router. First, try resetting it. If that doesn't solve the problem, make sure your router settings are appropriate. You can contact you ISP for assistance in doing this right. They usually have decent tech support.

Or it might be some virus (I once had one like this).
Run a scan as a precaution.

This is a problem that I have dealt with for a long time. I also have windows 8.1. However, there is the difference of how mine stays limited until I restart the router. All I can really ask is the normal stuff, have you restarted the computer and have you turned you internet on and off on your computer? (Sorry these questions must be asked) The most likely problem is that you have a bad router. Is it like this for all devices on this internet and does it only happen at your internet? Hope I can help,
-V

Why would you need an app to fix a bad connection?

It could be a bad router, or modem, like everyone else said. How do you connect to the internet in your house as well? Is it wired or wireless. If wireless try a wired connection and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't then it's most likely the router being too far away from your computer, or the wifi capabilities are very limited.

If the problem still occurs after plugging in an Ethernet cable then it would be harder to tell what's causing the error. It could be the drivers related to the internet. It could be the settings for the internet. Also it could be a faullty internet connection from your internet provider. It could even be a virus.

First I would try to see if the problem is with the wifi by using an Ethernet cable instead. Of course the basics should be done by unplugging the router and modem, then plugging them back in. Shut down your computer and start it up again.

OP, the others gave good advice. After you try all of their ideas, if it's still a problem, try updating the drivers for your wireless card.

Sorry, been neglecting this thread. Thanks guys. I've tried a lot of these things. I always assume it's the router usually because it's really bad (I live in a country-side area and my SP is the only one that has a close enough mast) but it wasn't happening until there was a problem with my laptop and I was forced to reset it. The laptop has regained most if not all optimal funtion but the reset seems to have brought on this issue. Also for the first reply, I contacted my SP about it and they said that the problem is an underlying problem across the country and they are "Doing [their] best to correct what [they] can". And Sid, I really only have one answer for your first question, they just want mpney. Thanks everyone. I'll try anything that's been suggested that I haven't tried but if anyone has the same problem and has success with another solution please let me know and I'll give it a try.

>>10 Paying money isn't going to fix anything. Don't fall for a stupid scam. Have you tried running the diagnostics tool? You should be able to right-click your network connection and click "Troubleshoot problems" or something along those lines. That will give you a better idea of where the problem is happening

>>11 >>11 Lol, the Windows diagnosis tool is as discerning as Dr Watson in the stories of Sherlock Holmes.

You can run it, but don't expect too much from it.

>>13 It's not going to hold your hand and point you to the problem, but if you know the first thing about networks, you can make educated guesses and narrow down the issue based on how far the diagnostics get. For example, the fact that you're getting "Limited Connection" already tells you that it's not the cable/wireless between your computer and the router (otherwise you'd have NO CONNECTION rather than LIMITED CONNECTION).

Don't be quick to dismiss a tool just because it doesn't do everything for you

I ran the diagnostic tool a while ago and it came up empty but just for the record it has worked in the past. It explained and fixed my Google Chrome crash problem and help to speed up the laptop after the aforementioned reset so it's not completely useless, like Dr. Watson. On a side note how did that bumbling fool get to be a doctor? Adds an element of humour I suppose.

What does it tell you currently? Does it say it couldn't find the problem?

Are you able to reach websites via IP addresses? Often the issue is with DNS (and I've noticed windows DNS servers derping especially)

Once it's "limited" I cannot access any webpage in any way, shape or form. The only thing to do seems to be to wait for it to come back. I've had minor success with turning the router off and on again and forgetting the network and keying it in again but these things fail as often as they work so it's possible that the times it works are just merely coincidence.

Also the troubleshooter is giving me "no issues found" or something to that effect and I can click for Wndows Help Center but of course when the connection is limited I can't access that.

It's not all the time so the problem is more of an inconvienience or more an annoyance.

Again, your router settings are goofed up. You need to access them from whatever IP address your router uses and correct them. Google from a different device what the IP is for your moden, or you can probably do ipconfig in cmd. I wouldn't know what's messed up though, so you need to confirm by yourself or with your ISP. Have you even bothered trying a *real* tech support forum for this? This shithole website full of little kids is the last place that would have the advice you need. No one bothered to mention there's a work around. Plug your device into an ethernet and use hardwired internet. Problem solved, every time.

Is it a wired connection? Or wireless?

If your are accessing it through wifi try a wired connection with an Ethernet cable. Most of the problems I can think of relate to limited wifi capabilities, since I had a similar problem until I upgraded my wifi card and router.

Sorry for the bad writing autocorrect on my phone is wack

24 Name: Deg deg : 2015-10-03 19:14 ID:JIzFfWHj [Del]

Okay. So I typed out a rather lengthy reply to all of these but, quite fittingly, my internet went limited as I was sending and it was deleted. If it weren't for the hilarious irony, I probably would've thrown this phone at the wall but I digress. I'm just going to summarise it in points.

A. I cannot use an ethernet favorite due to an expensive wiring issue in my house.

B. I will try any solutions given that I haven't already tried.

C. As I may or may not have already said, my ISP has been contacted multiple times and they are clueless. They have proved time and time again to be as much use as a chocolate teapot but are the only provider for where I live (I.e. the middle of nowhere).

D. I came to this site for people's opinions rather than someone trying to sell me something or giving me the same suggestion over and over. I have, on many occasions tried tech support forums and they have consistantly failed me so I was just asking on the off-chance. Please don't ask questions using phrases like "have you bothered" because I likely have "bothered" and I resent the tone. Although if you are merely tge victim of poor word choice and didn't mean to seem rude then that happens to the best of us and just say so but please don't be rude to me or anyone trying to help me out because if anyone is going to be that way, frankly, I don't want their help.

Also, if any of what I've said came off as rude, I am truly sorry. Today has been a less than good day and I'm not feeling the best so please don't take it personally. Thanks for everyone helping.

Can, or have, you possibly tried moving your pc closer to the router by chance? If you can and it starts working then it means your router, or card, isn't powerful enough to send or receive the signal over that distance. There is multiple fixes for that. One is buying a better router, a better card, or a wifi repeater.

Also just to cancel some probable causes is your wifi card securely fit in you pc, or laptop? If it isn't that could cause a spotty connection.

Also sorry if I came off as a tad rude as well before, I was just kind of taken back at someone saying I copied their advice when I was just repeating myself.

Oh and is the router being used by a lot of devices at once?

My pc kept giving me error messages when the router was being used on a ps3 and another computer, as well as mine.

27 Name: Deg deg : 2015-10-04 09:11 ID:zAMhR4UQ [Del]

Don't worry about it Sid. It's all good. My router is actually beside me when I'm on my laptop. I had success last night by taking the sure from its charger plug and plugging it directly into the laptop via USB but I'll need to test it more to know it's not just coincidence.

Usually the router is being used by about 3 devices but it claims to support up to 5 before having any problems. It should take up to 7 in total before disallowing any more devices.

Thanks.
