I don't know about you guys but I think an app for this place would be awesome. it would become like a sort of secret social media. and no longer confined to the browser. stick that with the IRC and we got ourselves one kick ass app!

Like this idea hasnt been brought up AT ALL.
Frankly, i still have no clue who is making the app, and whether those who did, that the app is good enough.
But seriously, if you want an app, get a group of friends, or tech buds and make one.
Or gather people here on this site to contribute to project APP, do it when it is summer break tho.

actually, it's not that hard to make an Android-based Apps, what you need are some programming skills(minimum: Java), if there are someone here who can help me to program it, then it shouldn't be that hard.

Have you ever used MIT app inventor? It's a GUI based program that makes designing android apps fairly easy. I've only ever used it to make games (and occasionally calculators that knew specific formulas), but I've seen other people use it to make all sorts of things.

I only know C++ (though I'll be taking a python class in the fall from a college way better than the community college I'm going to right now) and I have no problem using it. It shouldn't be too terribly difficult for somebody else with very limited programming knowledge to pick up also.

if you're going to code Java to make the app you'll want eclipse and the add on "swing" which is a GUI development kit. Personally I prefer Python. It's much user friendly and can be incorporated on most devices.

Yeah but java is more compact and way faster.

Yes I agree when it comes down to the end user. However, the time taken to write the code, and in particular GUI's is much quicker on Python. As for the app, Java would be easier to develop for android but you would need to code in apples "swift" language for Apples devices. An app would be cool though.

I can start off by creating a basic backend in Ruby and create a simple Oauth for "baccano". Then I could start integration using Android Studio, because if this is going to be a proper application, I would suggest programming in the native, it's always easier. If we want to make an iphone app from that, I'll start translating it once we get enough downloads on Android. If anyone wants to help, that would be cool too

>>14 Translate please? xD Looks like we've got an expert or two on our hands. Considering that, this shouldn't be much of a problem. Then again, what do I know?

currently i'm can handle C++ and Java
i'm prefer to use Java because it's open source though.
and for testing, i'm suggesting using on android, because it's will be released on google playstore, which it has a faster release than apple appstore(if i'm not mistaken my friend said that he's once released an app on apple and it tooks 3 months to be released)
more than that, we should focus on the prototyping it by using easiest resources.
this only my suggest though

Yeah the apple App Store have some requirements that you need to pass to get it on to it. Apple basically have a stricter way about it. I know an app would be cool but is the browser version really not good enough. I'm currently running it safari on my phone and the only thing I could see that app improving would be navigation really. That doesn't mean I'm knocking the idea. Just being realistic about it. Also, I'm sure if this thread keeps
Going more coders might weight in and push the idea forward some more.

Just a small thing, but if there ever is an app, it should also be on iOS. Not everyone has Android, like me :)

Yeah but most people do have Android, for every iPhone user there are at least 3 android users. Its still important in all kinds of development for your app or code to be cross platform. I would prefer that the site would just be optimized for mobile as well as desktop.

(Example, look at http://getbootstrap.com/ and resize your browser window to mobile phone size, notice the layout and sometimes content changes to match your view port size)

An app would be nice, using a web browser to access this website on a 4 inch screen is kind of a hassle.
