I use Norton with Microsoft security essentials. Also adblockplus blocks a bunch of pesky adds. Some ads triggered Norton due to it trying to plant some type of harmful program. That is why I always use and update adblockplus now.

Have you tried to remove the virus manually? If you look it up on the web, then I'm pretty sure (with some adware at least) you can just remove the files in your program files that are associated with that virus. There are specific steps, I think this works (I did this when infected with a minor adware virus): http://www.ehow.com/how_5583004_delete-adware-manually.html

If you're using Norton you might as well just install Limewire while you're at it, but that's my opinion.

OP, I advise you to buy an actual virus/malware scanner, Kaspersky for instance, which you can update whenever to ensure the safety of your computer.

The online scanners/blockers you may find are rarely ever a cure for an infected computer, and you might even end up with more malware/viruses than you started with.

In short, you're probably better off with an actual virus scanner (which may cost some money, but bringing your crashed device to a tech shop for repairs will be far costlier, trust me).
Either way, I hope things work out for you.
