A new 'smartphone' is coming our way on the market very soon, the runcible (designed by Monohm). The device is similar to that of a pocket watch in design and purpose. It runs a rounded out version of firefox OS and gives a new look into notifications. The back can be taken off and inside you'll find parts that can be changed and upgraded, for the purpose of handing the device down after generation after generation. You can even replace this back with another like you can with Motorola's Moto series.
It has no speakers, microphones or any way to have audio besides that of bluetooth, which is not an issue if you've never cared for that kind of thing. The purpose is to give you control on how a mobile device alerts you. Good thing if you don't use an alarm on your phone.
Inside you'll find facebook, twitter and even Instagram, just in bubble form. The camera works by turning your device to zoom in and out.
I would be worried about how to navigate through this device, but apparently you can by touching the bezel of the runcible.
I'm very interested in this device and I can't wait to hear more from it.

It just seems so backwards... I can't seem to see the appeal in this at all. And for a high end phone?! That's seems like a rip-off to me. The upgrading part is nice though... If they did that with real smartphones it would be incredible.

I'm super interested in Project Ara. We've needed upgradable phones for a while. The mark-up on phones isn't terrible, and generally you get what you pay for. The first phone that is super affordable with high end specs is the OnePlus One at about $370 for the 64gig version. Nothing on it is replaceable, but for the price it's amazing. In terms of specs it compares to an iPhone 6+.

I really like the idea behind the Runcible, and enjoy it more than a smartwatch. Smart Watches are gimmicky feeling to me. I much prefer just a nice, heavy, and most importantly metal watch.
