What is the worst computer virus you ever gotten?
For me it was one that just made my computer open porn sites every time i turned it on. It made me had to get a new computer TT_TT. But recently i got a Trojan that made Shortcuts of all of my folders. I had to factory reset the entire computer and install new malware protection.

UCash virus.... Blocking your PC and asking you to send money to "unblock" it. Sending money doesnt work of course. But your pc is blocked.

I eventually got rid of it, but it was hard >_<

Don't remember the name of what I got, and I never figured out how it got on my computer in the first place, but when an Anti-virus program I never installed started launching and telling me and had thousands of viruses, I knew something was up.

So I closed that and launched AVG, the program I ACTUALLY use. The virus posing as antivirus told me AVG was infected and kept it from launching. Every .exe on my computer was infected and could not launch. This viral antivirus started opening multiple windoows of itself and crashing the computer. It automatically was running on startup.

Booted in safe mode. That kept it from running. Used my mom's computer to google search the name of the fake antivirus and found the specific names of it's files. Ran a search of the disk. Deleted two files associated with the virus. After that I was able to run AVG and do a full scan. As opposed to the other program's supposed over nine thousand viruses I had, AVG found two. I was clean after that.

Except that my browsers wouldn't work anymore. I could run them, but no pages would load. Used my mom's computer to google again and basically this virus messes with your browser settings and enables a proxy that blocks every webpage. All I had to do was go to settings and disable proxy browsing and I was golden.

Never had a virus other than that. For a while I had been prepared to wipe my whole drive and start from scratch.

Yeah, plug-ins are NOT to be trusted in my opinion. I use AVG and it's been good so far, but I don't know if it might see innocent programs as threats. :/

Hahaha! I turned my AVG antivirus off for a few seconds to try and connect to a friend on a game we play, and suddenly I have "Windows 7 Defender Pro"! It was so quick...
It was pretty easy to detect and remove, though. Other than that I really haven't had any bad luck with viruses!

... Maybe it's the kind of sites I (don't) go on! Haha!

I actually haven't had a virus in a good 5+ years :) Common sense and a firewall/NAT have kept me protected

these vicious root kits and malware gen will replace the shit out of an executable file and replace it with self replicating bugs that will eat your entire system..

luckily these bastards are now blockable via anti viruses.. these gave me nightmares and much pain in the ass.. :((

Yeah I got the UCash virus too when it was really a thing, had to get a new computer since everything was fucked anyways. Worst virus you can get imho.

Ucash virus was bad but I removed it with spy hunter malware suite (scanned and removed it manually). Although, I have a new computer now.

So where exactly did you get that virus?

Not sure what site it was because it was a random pop-up. And then again I'm not entirely sure if it's the Ucash virus to start-off but they sound the same by description.
