Looking for a Universal Component Cable (13)

So I've run into a bit of a dilemma. We just got a new 46-inch HDTV in preparation for getting Xbox One. However, it lacks A/V inputs, meaning no red/white/yellow cables. So older consoles aren't able to be played on this TV. Luckily, I had a Universal Component Cable laying around which lets me play my PS2 and by extension PS1 on my new TV. However, that leaves my OG Xbox, Gamecube, and Super Nintendo out since the Wii connector isn't backwards compatible. I thought I found the right cable at GameStop, but as it turns out, it's a red/white/yellow S-AV Cable. Which means if I bought it I still couldn't play my other old systems, and I can't seem to find anything else. Does anyone know of a component cable that works for most of the older systems? I've already got the PS1 and PS2 covered, so that's not a problem. Even if it's a bunch of individual cables rather than universal, it'd still work.

I assume your Universal Cable outputs to HDMI, yes?

I don't think a single cable will work in this case. Seems like you'd have to get a converter box that converts the analog signal from your older stuff into the digital signal the TV uses. It's what I'm struggling with my Wii. I have a monitor with VGA, and I have a cable, but it doesn't convert the signal. It only converts the wires into a different arrangement (eg, RCA to D-sub) and so it doesn't work. I'd need to get a box to convert it.

There may very well be a cable I don't know of, but that's all I know.

Well what I mean by Component cable is the Red/White/Red/Green/Blue cable. The universal kind can hook up to different systems with just that one cable. It'll have a plug for Xbox, one for Gamecube, etc. I may need to get a converter though. I just don't want my old systems and games to collect dust in my closet. I like those games.

>>3 Ah, that kind of Component. I never understood the naming system for that connector, it's confusing.

Anyway, I know they certainly didn't make any convertors back when the SNES was first out, so I really think you'll have trouble finding something that isn't a $60-$70 convertor box for that one. As for the Gamecube and Xbox, I know you can get capture cards that output to USB, so if you have a laptop you could connect the card to that and connect that to the TV. It's a workaround, but it's something my friend does. Actually, I think you could do that with the SNES too.

How could I use HDMI? PS1, GameCube, OG Xbox, and legacy consoles don't support HDMI. NES and SNES aren't a problem since I can just buy a Retron 5 which does have HDMI. Nintendo 64 is still an issue though.

>>8 I think you'll have to get a converter box. I looked around some more and couldn't find any cables made for the older systems. They do sell boxes that convert RCA analog into digital HDMI output, with very little or no input lag. They cost about $60-$70, though. Sorry I can't be of more help.

What about VGA/RGB? Although I'm not sure offhand if the older consoles have ports for 'em....

>>11 The older consoles have either R/W/Y RCA or specialized ports (eg, Gamecube or Wii).

VGA is pretty much entirely for PCs.

Yeah, any console prior to the seventh generation(Xbox 360, Wii, PS3) uses R/W/Y. And unfortunately if I try to use R/W/Y on my HDTV by putting the yellow cable into the green socket, the image comes out black & white. So I either need a component cable, which is RGB, that works with GameCube, Xbox, and Nintendo 64(I've opted to buy a Retron 5 to take care of the NES, SNES, and other legacy systems that it supports), or I'll need to get an HDMI converter as someone suggested.
