I agree, we should be able to use our technology in school, this year our freedom got taken away from us this year cause last year some people were taking pictures of the teachers, snapchating, and texting. They ruined it for us and the people who didn't do the things I mentioned should not have to pay.

I feel like technology in school would distract students from absorbing as much knowledge as their little adolescent minds can take. Which, I might add, is a bit unfair that they do not have the choice to absorb said information, and are seemingly forced to take it all in as a form of reading, bookwork, or endless hours of sitting in a room all day listening to a teacher speak. ANYWAY, I feel like technology in the classroom would be heavily abused, and lead to a serious communication gap in the modern school system. (Sorry for going down a rabbit hole there...)

>>I assure you it was in my high school, but in all honesty, I'm not positive how many of those who abused it so would've paid any more attention without. There were a number of people too, even among the relative delinquents, who did actually use their laptops in school to write reports & college app essays.

Well it's allowed in our school but I think it's too distracting

As someone who works in a school, allow me to make some things very clear:

1) When you are on your school's network (either with your device or theirs), ALL OF YOUR ACTIVITY IS TRACKED. Your IT official will more than likely have a monitor in their office which shows your local IP as well as the IPs of the sites you are accessing at any given time. Bad sites will be red flagged and recorded, and YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION.

2) When we give you those devices, we make sure to lock out administrator privileges. You cannot make any changes to those devices, and we go as far as to lock the BIOS and boot devices. This means trying to run an OS off DVD or USB will NOT work.

We want you to use the devices as they were MEANT to be used. This means for educational purposes.

My school's IT official spent most of his time playing Counterstrike =|

There's certainly something to that though, different schools have amazingly different policies on this sort of thing. My advice for anyone with this question would be to wait & see what happens to the guy who first gets caught on Youtube. If they get away with 'Sam, I don't seem to recall assigning Gangnam Style' then you're in the clear.

in my school we don't really mind since we use iPads and computers to do our work and I don't really mind all that since for me I remember things better when I am typing for some reason so it makes work easier.

in my school, we now have to to use google chrome books for everything. they call it a good thing because were going "paperless". honestly, its a pain in the ass. we'd do better with out them.

What kind of schools are you talking about? Like, mid-high school, or post-secondary?

For either, the answer is yes. The issue however is more complicated than that and varies for both, but we can just say it's corruption.

The school wants you to buy books cause they make money from it - especially the publishers. That's the main reason why we're still actually using paper. There is no actual benefit from using paper over computers.

Welcome to the world, friend, and welcome to Dollars.

Sorry to open this topic again, but why do you think technology causes distraction?
