Hey guys,

Are you familiar with the episode in Durarara! wherein Ryuugamine sends e-mails to all the members of the Dollars to protect himself from Ryuuji's sister? I kinda want to do the same, texting our tagline anonymously to random phone numbers for inspiration. I really think it's cool and since I'm kinda limited to our VEEEERY costly SMS service here in my country, I wish to find alternate ways in pulling this off, maybe not similar to the anime but yeah one that really works.

I'm calling all Dollars who are app developers, programmers and computer geeks who wants discuss this very extensively.

As far as I know you can try making such thing using some SMS gates, but they're not always working or just messages are not passing too quickly. I can't help you with this right now, but I have a few other ideas of possible ways of realisation.

The other thing to say is that in Japan (as far as I know) they're not texting but mailing each other, so it was not a problem to send e-mails to everyone - a little php script will do the job.

Like I said, if you can leave the mass texting idea and go for mass mailing I can easly help u with that. We can make some variations around this idea by f.e. setting up gsm modem to some sort of local server so u can text one phone number and make it send your sms back to other users by e-mails. But if u want to keep the texting idea, it will force us to use sms gates, free or not, but we will still need them. I'm in hurry now so my response might not have any sense, anyway I hope you undersand the idea and the possibilities.

You'll have to consider data rates and charges for internationally sent mails and messages or is this more of a social app like that of KakaoTalk/Line or Text4Free/Pinger??

Thanks guys! you're a big help. Anyway, yep I actually researched on this and it turns out there's NO way I can do it that of DRRR anime. But yeah, it can be an app tho.

Lol. I'll make it if we get a few more replies. Pretty much I'd make a database form entry where you'd submit your number. Then, the number would go into a list with all the other numbers.
Later, I'd just send out an SMS using PHP's SMTP to everyone on the list whenever.

But what about the issue of being in diff countries? Wouldn't it make more sense to use email instead? We can do the texting idea but it'd be limited, I think?
