Pisces, the Wave Harvesting and Generation Device. (16)

As the name suggest it's a device (not created, this group I know is creating it and going to patent their design soon) that harvests waves in a sense, that helps push a magnet through a coil, which in turn helps generate power.

They have been linked to this site and will join and contribute to this topic in a bit, so soon the topic will get even more detailed.

Well not creating it, per say, but they are designing it up in full detail, with a diagram as well.

I really appreciate this plan being brought up here for discussion! Though I haven't heard of this particular project, I've heard mention of the concept recently and I'd be iglad to find out more about it. In general I'm very interested in energy conversion methods; I've had travelling wave nuclear reactors and other initiatives on the shelf for a while now but it seems I'm about to get pulled back in...;)

I would like to know the details of how this device works.

When they get here they will explain it in full detail, but it's basically like this.

Imagine seeing a magnet being tossed into a copper tube. It'll slow down the magnet and allow it to float down the tube. A magnet if done right can create energy while it moves inside of that tube. The idea is to create a generator using a coil rather than a tube, and place this contraption in the ocean. It would be placed into an area surrounded by a retaining wall. This retaining wall, each wall would be a door that when the ocean swell pushes to it, it'll open the door, entering the swell.

As ti does so it'll hit the inside wall causing waves, which push back at the generator device. It'll help shake the device, allowing the magnet on the inside to move. That's a summary.

Basically "using ocean swells and ocean waves" to gather electricity, using our own design generator that goes into the ocean.

When a swell hits, it goes into this container that holds the generator, and it'll shake it, causing the magnet to slowly float about inside of it due to the copper. When the swell hits the retaining walls of this container, it causes a push back wave of sorts, hitting the generator a second time, causing it to move even more. The movement will cause the power, and the heat it generators will help as well.

Ours = my friends. I'm just there to help with concepts.

I think I roughly understand the idea, though diagrams would surely help! How would the heat generated help though? ...unfortunately I have so little time to put into considering this!!

>>6 How do you store or transport the energy?

I don't know the specifics but I'm fairly certain you can use capacitors to store power. To transfer, it'd probably be water-sealed lines leading from the generator to houses on the coast.

Also if I recall you can convert heat into energy. Now while it'd take a lot of work to do, it's still a possibility.

>>12 You can't use the heat produced from work. Otherwise, we could just use all the heat produced when we exerted work and waste no energy. Except, the second law of thermodynamics specifically states we cannot. Entropy always increases over time. So, the heat is unusable as far as thermodynamics is concerned.

Now, as for the motion, how would you convert the momentum of the waves into storable, transportable energy?

Again I said I don't have all the details. They do. You'll have to wait.

But you can use the heat, to make steam, the steam can turn turbines, so of course you can still use the heat to create energy. It implies, though with that, it'd have to be big enough to be producing enough heat.
