Hello Dollars,

Though I haven't mentioned it, as I like to only mention my projects when they hit notable milestones, I have been working on an app to connect dollars members in a way that will facilitate meetups. However, I just discoved that facebook has now added this functionality to their arsenal: Facebook's Nearby Friends.

Though this isn't the only innovation of the sort to exist, due to the overwhelming popularity of facebook I'm wondering if I should still bother. Facebook is Facebook, even if I could complete this by myself or with a small team it likely wouldn't be up to the same standards they can manage; additionally, the time in which I could produce something directly depends on the amount of people I can find to collaborate with.

So I'd like to open it up to the rest of you: What do you think of Nearby Friends? Would you like an app of that sort for the dollars exclusively? Any opinion at all, I'd like to hear it.

You should, in my opinion. We're not Facebook by any stretch of the imagination. If you're going, or you were going to, make something like that for us, I suggest you still do it since a lot of the Dollars on here to say the least, hates Facebook and won't use it/doesn't use it.

Facebook is overrated and something uniquely made for the Dollars by the dollars would be extremely nice.

That would also someone ruin the whole concept of "the Dollars" having all of our pictures seen. Which isn't that big of a deal but we shouldn't be seen as that group of people right their are the Dollars but rather theirs a group known as the Dollars. These are just my opinion, but facebook... bad idea.

It's a little early to think about this, but I wasn't even going to put it up on any app stores. (At least not major ones). Of course, that means that it wouldn't be tested by Apple or Google, but it's going to be an open source project and hopefully some fellow dollars will collaborate and therefore boost the integrity/authenticity of it. That's as I said, not a concern for the moment.

I would like to see something like this exclusively for Dollars. Only thing is, we can't always make it exclusive to Dollars. There will of course be people who want to check it out and go google "What is the Dollars password?"

If you do make this, which I hope you do, then please make it available for WebOS.
