dear website developer
can you make search engine for this site based on thread title, maybe it can make us more easy to looking for something here

2 Name: Ao!I94GMMnlgM : 2014-02-15 03:07 ID:y1Pnocx/ [Del]

Ctrl+F

Boom

3 Name: Alex : 2014-02-16 21:10 ID:NEVO9/v0 [Del]

there's too much thing to looking it

We've had people suggest it before, and for how it looks this will not be added. So I suggest you learn to use Ctrl+F.

The problem is with the way the site works, it would be pretty resource-heavy to search. Basically, it would take a lot of time, and the site would slow down a lot if a lot of people searched at one time.

Someone with some programming knowledge would have to find a way to make the search very efficient, and I'm not even sure that's possible on a BBS.

It's entirely possible - but you will have to do a dedicated search. Meaning on a server against a database. So you would either have to get this site's admin to integrate the solution or use your own server to fetch all data/update the data regularly and let other people use it.
I am thinking about adding such a feature to x4xy4's and my app. No promises here, though ;P

>>6 Not really. We could just make something to parse every thread name(with subback) and then search those.

I already proved it was possible. I created a search function on a Google provided search bar creating system. Added proper links, and with keywords could search for specific topics by name or content.

It wasn't good and only showed a few results, but it means if Google can do it, Reltair can easily do it.

>>7 Exactly. But we will cache the thread names and so on in a database. You are not forgetting about all the traffic you cause to do this on your browser? For the server - no problem. But I don't like to browse a site that does such a sub optimal thing - especially with a cellphone and no wifi in sight. I don't think that I am alone with this thought.
Also >>5 was talking about an efficient way to do so - which would be using a database directly.
As for why there is no native search... see below.

>>8 well, let's improve the results ;)
Making a search bar is easy - yes. But why is there no search bar after all those years? There has to be some other reason. This cannot be the first thread asking for a search bar!

There isn't one because most of us didn't want it because we can CTRL+F, and thinking it'd not be possible.

Now we know that it is.

>>10 or, thinking itd be a waste of resources since ctrl f works perfectly fine.

>>11 Ctrl-F has its limitations. It can't search inside threads, it can't search across boards, and not all devices have that functionality. Or, some that do have a very limited Ctrl-F equivalent.

>>8 No, you didn't. http://dollars-bbs.org/login.php gives off a cookie on the correct POST, "pw=baccano" Otherwise, none of the bulletin board is visible.

Hence, with all this said, you're lying.

To do this, we would:

Have a web crawler perform parsing of a page document to database every x amount of (time).
The crawler would store all data.

On a user search, a person would access this database.
The search would give an output of database information.

You could, you know, learn to keep your mouth shut over saying I'm lying. I never said anything that anything wasn't possible, or my way was the only way. I said my way only provided very specific, limited information. As in, it implies I didn't do everything that was possible and obviously didn't know of better ways, but did know it's still rather possible to fix.

So provide information where I'm "lying".

Didn't mean shut your mouth in some tough-guy sense. XD My bad there.
