So, I've been watching GITS for quite some time. The metaphysical conversations, solipsist characters, and finally the machines integrated into human bodies, which brings us to our topic.

If we had the capabilities to modify our bodies to such an extent as seen on that show (or perhaps differently or beyond), would you stay "organic" (without any mechanical implants) or would you enhance yourself? What machines would you incorporate where, and why? Would you like the internet directly in your brain as well, or just physical mods?

Id probably take my left eye and replace it with an infrared sensor/heat sensor, and my left ear as a sensor with an adjustable soundwave pickup range. No brain internet. Ppls hackin muh thoughts n sheit. Why my left eye? I dunno, I just don't like it much. Asymmetrical. And because its always covered by my bangs, I could see people through walls without having to let people see. Id also want a knife in my thumb for convenience purposes, cutting vegetables and soda cans and carving wood and stuff like that.

Great show, one of my favorites.

Assuming you would have to get a cyberbrain for any augmentations to work, I would augment my hearing and sight. I would implant cameras into my eyes as well.

The biggest advantage to getting augmented is the cyberbrain, in my opinion. Other additions are helpful, but honestly I see that as the most important. Having advanced sight like you suggested is helpful, sure, but also realize the more upgrades you get the more adjusting you'll have to do. Also you have to pay to have them repaired. From what the show suggests repairs have to be done quite often.

A cyberbrain would be amazing. There are so many possibilities. You can use your eyes as monitors, without even having them augmented, so you could watch movies, listen to music, or play games right from your own brain. You could do complex math instantaneously by having your computer do the work and display it to you. You could take pictures and save them to your cyberbrain at any time. You could do anything a computer could, but with the convenience of controlling it with your thoughts and having it available at any time. The possibilities are many, and those are without using any wireless capabilities.

There is the hacking problem. People could essentially hack you, which would present obvious problems. However, I would say using computers now is still a huge risk. People can steal your money, house, everything you own, and your entire identity using computers. Despite this huge risk, people still use them all the time. It depends on how invested you are. If you augment everything, your hacker can control everything. If you only get a cyberbrain, they would have to ghost hack you to do anything at all (which is incredibly difficult).

Essentially, I'd be like Togusa. Nothing other than some eye enhancements and a cyberbrain. I just wouldn't use anything else.

>>3 understandable. That doesn't sound like a bad idea actually. I think id do something similar.
