THIS IS NOT MY WORK
I want all of you to understand that this is not my own idea. I just want to make sure that all of you are aware of this promising prospect.

"Evolution: New category.

We're always trying to foresee the future a bit here at TPB. One of the things that we really know is that we as a society will always share. Digital communication has made that a lot easier and will continue to do so. And after the internets evolutionized data to go from analog to digital, it's time for the next step.

Today most data is born digitally. It's not about the transition from analog to digital anymore. We don't talk about how to rip anything without losing quality since we make perfect 1 to 1 digital copies of things. Music, movies, books, all come from the digital sphere. But we're physical people and we need objects to touch sometimes as well!

We believe that the next step in copying will be made from digital form into physical form. It will be physical objects. Or as we decided to call them: Physibles. Data objects that are able (and feasible) to become physical. We believe that things like three dimensional printers, scanners and such are just the first step. We believe that in the nearby future you will print your spare sparts for your vehicles. You will download your sneakers within 20 years.

The benefit to society is huge. No more shipping huge amount of products around the world. No more shipping the broken products back. No more child labour. We'll be able to print food for hungry people. We'll be able to share not only a recipe, but the full meal. We'll be able to actually copy that floppy, if we needed one.

We believe that the future of sharing is about physible data. We're thinking of temporarily renaming ourselves to The Product Bay - but we had no graphical artist around to make a logo. In the future, we'll download one."

First off printing off a product is highly unlikely, since that would require one to have the materials to make it off hand for the printer to produce it. The only way it would work is with a teleporter that could teleport objects the printer and they become assembled. It would have to abide by the laws that matter can't be created, nor destroyed.

However the technology already exists for one to view a product in three dimensions, and som people are experimenting with printing out spare parts for weaponry and automobiles. The only problem is the plastic isn't strong enough to last as long as the manufactured metal part. Also patents won't allow one to print out a full 3d replica of a product.

But there could be centers with the materials which one would just plug something into and they pay for the item to be created. But the machinery to do such an array of tasks will be huge. From cooking a meal to sewing (on a large scale) requires a vast array of machinety, which makes it seem more unlikely that this would happen in the near future. If it to come to be then I think something akin to a teleporter could make use of multiple machines in different areas collaborate together.

By no means am I an expert or will I claim to be. There are materials harder than aspic and computer aided machines that already produce custom parts and materials in school and home shops everywhere. As for the patents and technology, this is set into the future. 50 years? 100? I don't know. But by then, when the tech is more common, people will allow for public use of patents and it will be possible. I realize that this is a What if. With it's a highly probable What if.
