I haven't heard much about Windows 8 yet. From what I hear, however, there isn't much functional difference in terms of the software itself - it claims to handle resources better, but I haven't heard any evidence to back that up.

On top of that, it seems like Windows is jumping on the touchscreen bandwagon and tailoring their entire software for usage with it... which makes it completely unintuitive for normal laptops. The swapping out of the start menu for that massive, bulky icon screen just kind of rubs me the wrong way.

There is a saying in the business and technology world - don't fix what isn't broken. I get they're trying to be innovative, but they kind of fell short.

I tried it and it destroyed one of my hard drives. What happened was when I upgraded from 7 to 8, it yanked out all of my proprietary drivers which caused massive hardware incompatibilities throughout. When I tried to restore to 7 it corrupted the entire partition table. Rather than waste my time with a complete wipe I just chucked the drive and put a new one in.

So I will just say this: If you want Windows 8/RT, buy a computer or tablet that was made specifically for it. Do not upgrade because it's insanely complicated to do correctly. And this is coming from someone who's taken courses on computer troubleshooting.

Also, they are moving toward elimination of the desktop and the adoption of full screen programs. This is bullshit, and I'm planning to move away from Windows soon enough.

>>3 Eliminating the desktop for fullscreen programs? Are you serious? That's just so unnecessary sounding... for what reason would that be ideal, except to appeal to the smartphone/tablet users? Unless that is their entire point, to usurp the market for that, since it's becoming ever more popular. It wouldn't be unbelievable, but it's an unbelievably dickish move to their primary consumers.

I trusted Windows not to go the way of Apple by using shiny gimmicks to sell their products, but if this is really the direction they're choosing I'm going to have to switch to a different OS in the future as well. It's literally insulting to the industry.

>>4 You hit the nail on the head there. A lot of people only have one program up at a time, which is why they're doing it. A lot of people don't use their desktops anymore, which is why their doing it. The odd ones out are going to get shafted because of it.

I'll have between two and four windows up at any given time, across two screens. In a few years, it's likely that will no longer be a thing. It wouldn't be compatible with Metro/Modern anyway. 8 and RT were designed with tablets in mind; you can duplicate your display, but extending it is a bitch. That's just how it is now.

The ONLY nice thing about Metro is that indexing still works. You can search programs, settings, and files from the Home Screen. But most apps are rendering full on their own. That's the future, after all.

Now i have notesed that the windows 8 iss more of a taplet and the windows 7 was realy made for computers

>>5 I was kind of hoping I was wrong about what I had heard, but thanks for confirming. It's a huge step back, on their part. Isn't a major part of computing ease of access, convenience, and multitasking? Who in their right mind sanctioned the idea that we need to start reducing the ability to multitask, while making things less convenient and more stylish? It sounds like something that would come from a business side moreso than the-

...Oh. I guess it does make sense. The typical consumer is gradually leaning toward those that wouldn't care for functionality, isn't it.

Well that's just bleak. If you read into it, as a society we're leaning away from advancing computer technology if this keeps up. The market controls the tech, some would argue, and somehow the "geeks" have been outnumbered in their own home court.

The way I see it, 7 will be my final Microsoft OS. After my laptop and desktop both die, I'm going to either keep pirating 7, install Joli, or in the worst case, get a Mac. I'm not that much a fan of UNIX based OSes, but if I had to pick, I'd go with the one that has big name software on it. Ubuntu just never did it for me. At least Joli has cloud integration.

It makes me laugh that the Windows 8 Start screen is trying to eliminate the process of people searching for their programs from a bunch of menus by having shortcuts all on the one screen, except...that's why we have desktop shortcuts :v

Windows 7 --> actual computers.
Windows 8 --> computers for kids with multitouch screen and tablets

I think that's that

What people don't understand is that windows 8 is just a fancy menu add on to match the xbox, it still has a windows 7 interface.

Everything changed about Windows 8 feels unnecessary and irritating save one thing. The search is much faster.

I like win 7

>>12 No it isn't, they removed the "Start" button and I don't think you can add startup scripts with cmd, I don't even think cmd exist anymore on Win 8.

I have to say though, this system seems kind of silly, I mean, I can see why they designed the OS for full screen tablet use, but laptops and computers really got ripped with. I like having windows all over the fucking place :(

I have used both W8 and W7. W8 is defiantly something you need to get used to, but once you are, it's user interface for touch screen devices is wonderful. That being said, it is meant for Touchscreens not the average home PC or Laptop.
Windows 7 is great and very users friendly.
As of now, Windows 7 is my prime choice, until touchscreens devices and computer screens become more widely used.

>>18 I know it's made for touchscreen tablets, but why should actual laptop users have to put up with the interface if they don't have the touchscreen part. It just seems stupid.

20 Name: Tsuki : 2013-03-08 07:15 ID:PwLunSTe [Del]

I mean, you can just DO MORE with a laptop than you can with a tablet. I know that the lines between the two devices are becoming blurry, especially with advances being made in terms of hardware, but still. Why is it that Win8 feels like it's taking a step backwards.

>>20 There is actually a downgrade option inside the Windows 8 OS software for those users who want to return to using Windows 7.
Proof

I personally like Windows 7.... It's more simpler....

25 Name: Ranguna!bUMCaSNWgQ : 2013-03-08 17:22 ID:+bMvndyZ [Del]

Actualy windows 8 is more simpler, it's just that windows 7 is more professional and windows 8 removes all the microsoft style and adds lots of apple style, which sucks

26 Name: Tsuki : 2013-03-08 19:19 ID:PwLunSTe [Del]

>>22 that's nice and all...but win8 really shouldn't be marketed on laptops.

27 Name: Tekato : 2013-03-11 22:09 ID:wAWS71zk [Del]

Windows 8 is more for a smart phone or tablet interface. Nothing for a laptop or desktop.

I use windows 8 on my laptop and I like it a lot. Then again it is just an opinion. Tekato is right though, originally windows 8 was designed for touch screen interface. I suggest get a touch screen laptop ;)
