Okay, well today I tried downloading a textbook from piratebay and I accidently downloaded the PrivitizeVPN... I uninstalled it from my control panel and used an Advanced Uninstall program to remove all other tracts of it. However, it still shows up on my "Notifications Area Icons," does anyone know how to remove it?

Are you sure that it's completely gone from your computer? Check your Task Manager and check out any services and/or processes that may have been superfluous and left out of the uninstall procedure. Something similar happened to me when I attempted to uninstall Veoh Video Player from my computer. When I installed it, I also apparently download another program that did God knows what (the little bastard was hidden in the fine print, and I even had to manually reject other extra crap like the browser toolbar and GUI interface to some optional download manager). I only found out about it after looking through the Task Manager to try and solve another issue I was having. It was a bitch to get it off too, but I eventually got it.

yeah, I've looked there, but I can't find it... Would it be under the same name or a different one? I've looked online and it said that it could be under "random.exe" but it's not there.

It could be under a different name. That may be why you can't find it. Man that sucks. The only thing that you can really do is go through all of your process and research everything you don't know. But, maybe there's something else you can do before we resort to that. Have you deleted your registration entries after uninstalling the program? Try doing that and see if there are any changes (If you don't know how to do this, use CCleaner).

I have done that too... I have installed Advanced Uninstall, Revo, and CCleaner but all of them have said that it is already uninstalled. Someone said to use regedit, but it doesn't want to run on my computer... :(

There's little else I can tell you to solve this without taking a look around myself... :/

If I was you I'd go hardcore mode on research every single process and service that your computer is running through the Task Manager. It may be easier to locate with a more advanced interface. If you open up your Task Manager then go to Performance --> and click on Resource Monitor button, you'll get a more advanced interface separating process, services, and programs your computer is running. This was actually how I was able to find that hidden process I was going on about earlier. Have you tried this? If not, go ahead and see what you can find. Otherwise, I'm afraid I don't know what else I can tell you. :/

I haven't tried this yet... how can you tell what's going on here? I just looked at it and now I'm totally confused

Oh yeah, sorry about that.

The Resource Monitor is going to show you all of the process and services available on your computer (or at least the ones you need to worry about, considering the problem you're having, it HAS to be there) that you would normally be able to see on the regular Task Manager, but it separates every process and service so you can better find what you're looking for.

I did a little research on PrivitizeVPN.exe, and I read that it was program that allows you to use a free VPN. Since this is related to networking, I say you should look under Resource Manager --> Network --> Processes with Network Activity . Now look for PrivitizeVPN.exe or random.exe (or anything suspicious). If in doubt, Google it. (or Bing it, whatever you want.)

just thought I'd speak up here, that's the notification icon list. it's just listing all notification icons that have recently appeared on your system. I don't use privitize but I know it is legitimate software. it hasn't left anything behind, Windows is just being stupid.
