The government can't just take your guns away. It's a constitutional right, and if you think just a standard bill is hard to get through Congress, just imagine how difficult it'd be for a Constitutional amendment to be passed through with how divided Congress is.
Besides, even in the unlikely case that guns were to be entirely outlawed, the Fourth Amendment protects one from unreasonable search and seizure. That's two amendments that'd have to be struck down.
The guns used in that shooting were obtained legally by the gunman's mother in a state with some of the tightest gun laws in the Union. Had the mother been a responsible gun owner, she'd have kept her weapons locked up nice and tight.
Barack Obama didn't take your guns away in his first term like all the Republicans said he would, so I highly doubt he'd do it now.
