Ok, so everyone has played games like Armored Cores, Chromehounds, Mech Warrior, ect., right?

So, what are your thought on mechs IRL? Can they be made? What about how they will be used? How expensive? What is the probability of seeing them made in our lifetimes?

I personally think that it could be done, but not like in AC or Gundam. That's just too much.

Something like in Chromehounds would be possible though. Realistic, bipedal/four-legged/treaded mechs could be done, and would be larger than tanks. Walkers, like Star Wars's AT-ST or AT-RT could be used as well.

These could obviously have a military application, such as the one in the picture playing the role of heavy assault or support, replacing an entire armour division. Walkers, like the AT-ST/AT-PT/AT-RT could be used to replace squads in battle or be used in scouting.

Don't forget the civilian applications either! The larger ones could be used in mining or construction. Faster ones can see use in transport or travel. Hell, you could even use a tall one as a mobile hunting stand...

So, what are your opinions? Could you see mechs being used in the future?

I'm pretty sure someone brought up the kuratas before, which is probably the closest mech (currently available) to resemble an armored core, but links anyways, at the bottom. It's roughly abit over a million, and definitely can't pick itself up if it falls, but we're nearly there. Nearly. It's kind of scary that the bb-mini gun activates via smile detectors, like in cameras. D:

I forgot to write an opinion. No, as amazing as it would be to have things like that, I can't see any useful application from actually having machines that move like organics - with legs and such - even then, they'd be war machines, wouldn't they?

As for civilian application....just one question, why would you need one? But thinking about it, if they could shrink the technology to make prosthetic limbs that respond and look like real ones, that'd be really interesting.

You mean prosthetic limbs like they have in Deus Ex 3?

Exactly that - without the inbuilt weapons.

They could be keept charged by wireless power transfer

but it wouldnt be much of a stretch for military like they have in Deus Ex 3

sorry if this has gone off topic.
