Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE: AMD) or AMD is an American multinational semiconductor company based in Sunnyvale, California, that develops computer processors and related technologies for commercial and consumer markets. Its main products include microprocessors, motherboard chipsets, embedded processors and graphics processors for servers, workstations and personal computers, and embedded systems applications.

AMD all the way! Well at least for the cost conscious consumer. Yes, Intel is high in price, but I would suggest intel for computers that are going to be running business applications that need a bit of processing power. AMD however is perfect for someone who is more into media and gaming. I personally swear by AMD, but will say that Intel has its pros as well.

AMD makes great processors. Excellent for gaming, and has a manageable price on it. If anyone is trying to make their own computer, go with this for the processor, unless you really want to fork out the extra unnecessary cash.

>>2 Even when it comes to business applications I think AMD is better because of the new APUs.

>>4 AMD is awesome however they use ATI and Nvidia is faster than ATI. i rather have intel because ATI and AMD makes their PCs cost more.

>>5 Why not use Nvidia with AMD Processors? I know it can be done because I and many other people have done it before.

Also, ATI cards aren't horrible. In fact, the fastest ATI card is currently faster than the fastest Nvidia card according to New Egg. In other words, if you're looking at the lower end of the spectrum, go for Nvidia, but if you're looking for pure power regardless of price, chances are ATI is the way to go.

Anyways, take that with a grain of salt. Anything could happen between now and later. Actually, something might have already happened since I last looked at cards. So you should always do your own research when it comes to hardware. Trust me, it will save you a lot of money and frustration. And if you know your shit, you can impress women with it!

>>5 PS

You want to look at certain things when looking for a graphics card.

-Memory
-Stream Processors/CUDA Cores
-Memory Interface
-Memory Type
-3D API version
-Core Clock
-Effective Memory Clock

The best card will look like below.

Memory Size- 2.5/3GB
Memory Interface- 512-bit
Memory Type- GDDR5
Effective Memory Clock- 1,500Mhz or higher
Core Clock- 1,000Mhz or higher
Stream Processors/CUDA Cores- 2048 Stream/3072 CUDA
3D API Version- DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.2

That's insane. All I have is a GeForce 8600 GTS. 256MB. And its running AMD 64 X2!

I prefer Intel, but AMD has an actual 8 core processer on the market for the masses, while intel only has a 6. I give props to AMD for outdiong intel with how many cores can go on a processer.

>>9 They have as much as 16 cores on some processors, but right now that's only for servers and workload computers that need a huge amount of multitasking power.
