Okay, never thought id say this, but I have a tech problem that I cant fix!
backstory: when going to use the comp, my sis found the mouse in the center of the screen, and was unable to move it. Removed & replugged the usb, didnt work. Got a different mouse, didnt work. Restarted the computer, didnt work. Did a system restore 2 different times, STILL DIDNT WORK.
Im able to do some stuff with the keyboard, but all in all im fucked.
What the fuck should I do guys??

Might be a problem with the USB ports themselves, in which case I would recommend rolling back the drivers for all USB ports in the Device Manager. Another suggestion is to go into Device Manager, go under pointing devices, and uninstall all drivers related to mice.

I checked that, but there was nothing showing what was mouse, keyboard, etc. how do I rollback the drivers?

Never mind, found out, but it won't let me

8 Name: sleepology !CHs4eVJ3O2 : 2012-04-11 22:49 ID:jTFG1270 [Del]

It's saying it can't load the driver software, giving me code 39, but when I go to update it says it's up to date

Possibly a registry error. Do you use something like CCleaner or Wise Registry Cleaner? If not, I'd recommend installing the former and running a registry scan, then restarting.

Yea I installed something that should scan and make it so I can fix any hardware issues, but the kicker is that I cant do that without clicking a button.

Bump.
Turns out the program I found that should fix the error is something I have to pay for.. so ya.. not doin that.
What ive done:
restarted, restored to pervious date, uninstalled &reinstalled drivers, plugged in a different mouse, plugged it into different usb ports, shut off the comp for 3 days
suggestions?

Reinstall the OS at your own peril?

I dont think I need to go that far just to fix one driver

So you can access icons on the desktop and everything else just fine using the keyboard?

By the way, I was going through the old threads and found this:

Its the final update!
Name that song.
So I somehow killed two birds with one stone. reinstalled/repaired my antivirus, causing the comp to reboot, and my mouse now works fine. HOORAH!

What's wrong with Norton :T

I've never tried Kaspersky. But apparently Jackie Chan advertises it?

>>23 Multiple things, actually.

- Norton is chock full of security holes. Their developers do not keep up with threats as much as other security software companies.

- Norton has, over the years, shown compatibility problems with multiple versions of Windows.

- Norton leaves a lot of ghost files in your computer when you try to uninstall it, and can potentially damage your system.
