ok guys so i'm writing a paper on the deep web, but most of the information i've found all seems to stem from this website http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=jep;view=text;rgn=main;idno=3336451.0007.104

what I'm really striving for are articles or journals with first hand experiance. please don't say slavenation.com they for one are a bunch of bitches and their website iss all metaphors and violent imagery which isn't really helpful.
can you guys please help?

What goes on in the deep web, stays in the deep web. Jk
Maybe all of the info on the deep web is hidden in the deep web? Again Jk

I've got so many awesome puns for this. So, the deep web is all of those sites that you can't just search for? You have to dig, literally and figuratively, to find them? (Wow, another pun.)

I personally never went to the deep web myself, but I've heard and seen some pretty bizarre stuff from a lot of people. Most of the time it's just CP you really don't wanna see though, lol.

yeeeaaah, if you wanna do a report on the deep web you'll have to censor your findings if you plan on passing. (not because of secrecy, but because it's a breeding ground for criminal activity).

The first things people are going to say is "Child porn and criminal activity" as noted above. Those are fairly active parts of it, but there's a lot of other stuff in there too.

It's filled with mostly archaic websites, like 4chan style bulletin boards or early index structures. There's a very real chance you can find pretty much anything for sale in the Deepnet (Darknet, undernet, etc.)

It's that little missing aspect of the internet which completes the term "you can find anything on the internet" - With the addition of the deepnet at your fingers, this is legitimately true. There's nothing I can think of that you can't find and/or purchase on the internet now.

Deepnet is responsible for the creation of the bitcoin currency, which is akin to a universal paypal in the deepnet. Since the only way to pay for things down there (that I am aware of) is by bitcoin - People will actively accept bitcoin instead of cash to trade their wares, whatever it may be.

The main reason being that bitcoin is much harder to track - It isn't impossible, but it is extremely difficult. Since each bitcoin has a USD equivalency (as well as other nation currencies), people will measure up and trade out their bitcoin for files, or offline products and services - Usually illegal.

These illegal things can range anywhere from your average marijuana deals, to hallucinogenics, to child porn videos, or porn of anorexic people, etc. It's kind of shocking if its your first time in there and you're just looking around.

There's some rumors you can hire hitmen on the deepweb as well, but I never looked around hard enough to find out if you could - And even then, I am relatively skeptical. Still, it's a possibility.

Most people will demonize the Darknet. "Oh it's full of hackers, you'll get screwed with viruses, etc." And while it's true that there are rather skilled hackers on the deepnet, and that viruses are a real possibility - This is true for the internet in general.

Tighten down your firewalls, keep it updated, and use some common sense regarding what links you click and what routes you follow. There's a lot of neat stuff in the deepnet that you can stumble upon which isn't illegal, just strange.

It just requires you to be a little more blind in your search.

It's pretty scary down there, but what Ayanavi said. You can find a lot of assassins down there, even a human experiment lab or two. . _ . -scarred for life-

A good starting point might be to go there yourself, though I would suggest using a school computer, or a library computer, or a partition of some linux or unix based OS on your own computer. I also found this http://www.fravia.com/deepweb_searching.htm
Didn't look at it thoroughly, but after a quick glance it looked moderately useful. And sorry if I gave advice that was already stated, I haven't refreshed this page for about an hour? Anyways, hope it was useful and I need to get back to homework.

>>1 You should know that MOST, if not all material on the deep web, isn't even through HTTP, like TOR.

A lot can be found on old Telnet BBS structures dating back to the early 90s that are STILL around, gathering files all this time. Hell, I even stumbled across anonymous SSH servers where they're used to chat. A lot of the deep web can also be found on P2P where there's hundreds of Terabytes worth of files sitting around on the web. I might even go far as to say that there are (lol, doesn't make sense)"secret protocols" where a lot of data can be found.

Wrong: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Bitcoin

1) Bitcoin creation has no link to the deepweb.
2) You can pay with whatever people will accept on the deepweb. However, Bitcoin is a (mostly) anonymous currency so it's easy to use without being traced.

>>The main reason being that bitcoin is much harder to track - It isn't impossible, but it is extremely difficult. Wrong again. Bitcoin is VERY easy to track. So easy to track that today, a transaction of about ONE HUNDRED FORTY SEVEN MILLION US dollars (about 200K bitcoins) was witnessed by every bitcoin user AND recorded in the bitcoin master chain. What this means is that EVERYONE can know what got traded at anytime and from which to which wallet. What we can't know (without good investigation) is who are the two wallet's physical owners.

People say Bitcoin is untraceable. This is wrong. Bitcoin IS TRACEABLE. The whole transaction history is shared between ALL the Bitcoin users. Bitcoin is said to be untraceable because you can't link a real person to Bitcoin wallet without reasonable proof.

If someone comes in two weeks and lurks to find for information (or is linked to this thread in any way), it's best they can get correct information :)
