I was wondering something. I was playing Final Fantasy one day, and saw many awesome AIRSHIPS that really, look impossible to make.

That then got me thinking. What ways could those types be made, that still goes hand in hand, with 'reality'? This may seem stupid, but I want your ideas.

I thought of those fans without blades. It's just like a thing that rotates, and pulls in air, which is supposed to work better.
Now add something like that, into a concept of an airship.
How would that work?

Anyway, let's talk about your ideas for this, as well. What do you think. How would yours work? Why would it work, and when and/ or where would it work?

I think history tried that tactic before...

It didn't work, unfortunately...

If it were an airship designed like the ones to the left, it would need a large amount of power to be kept in the air, and forward momentum would be rather slow. Altitude would also play a key role i believe

Oh, picture unrelated. I just wanted to get that 'image' in your head.

Well its there n its the only ones i can think of, besides starwars n ff12

Well I think in the near future it would be highly possible to create magnetic ships. They take in and amply surrounding magnetic forces, both positive and negative polarities, forcing the ship to hover in the current position when it amplifies both + and - forces.

Then they can double the intake of positive amplifications, used to push the ship in any direction it wants.

Because the whole world is filled with Magnetic Forces.

Here is a small diagram on what I mean.
The Dark Red in the Negative. The Light red is the Positive.

As of now it's physically impossible, but there might be a machine, one day, that could be made to make the Positive push an object like this.

I messed up and had to delete the post. I forgot to add in it'd work when it repels.

I've always thought futuristic airships were cool, but I can't really see them being used as a weapon in the military. They're just far too easy to shoot down with missiles, and you don't wanna be at the spot an airship comes crashing down on when that happens.

As for commercial use, it's possible. Hell, just a couple of centuries ago, we didn't think it was possible for humans to fly in the skies.

With the idea of Magnetic Forces being used to propel it into the skies, it might also be possible to have it where gunfire, missiles, whatever, will also be repelled upon reaching of a certain point.

This would be bad if enemies got a hold of it, but also good for when people are flying around hostile territory.

Anyway, magnetic fields are one thing that effects the over-all gravity from Earth.

If they could channel Magnetic Polarities into specific parts of of the ship, they could FORCE movement into the air in whatever direction that they deemed necessary.

>>15 I am so very sorry. I know what you're saying could be scientifically sound, but I couldn't help but think of troll physics.

God what has the internet done to me?

I'm not talking about a magnet behind a piece of metal, hooked to something on wheels.
I'm talking about a machine designed to actually interact with each magnetic force, then force differing polarities into differing parts of the ship, where it only effects the designated parts and not with each other.

It's much more complex than what any troll could come up with.

>>17 I know, and I apologize, but my tiny brain went straight for the troll.

But something like that would have to be insanely powerful to react to the Earth's magnetics. It would definately have some kinks to work out as enough of them could end up causing pole shift.

At the current moment, I could only confidently say that a magnetic pulse would be an efficient way of ascension rather than propulsion. But who knows? They could be working on this type of tech already.

And assuming I've been taking the wrong approach, a magnetic type of engine aimed at certain parts of the ship might work, but again I only see ascension.

You definately have a good lead on a means of flight. I should look into this myself. Wouldn't mind engineering my own Highwind one of these days.

Also another, better form of propulsion, would be as earlier stated.

instead of having regular blades, the idea would be to replace it, with the blade-less fan concept. They have fans that are nothing more than 2 cylinders, one rotating inside, which pulls in more air, better, at a faster, more steady, cleaner rate. Using that general idea, one would figure it could be used on a larger scale, for planes.

Mix that along with the Magnetic Machine idea, and we might have a good idea.

Also there is, from what I think. Anti Gravity Machines that NASA has, as well as a way to make you weightless in a certain airplane called 0 Gravity or something.
There might also be a way to make a Anti-Gravity Machine on a huge scale, so it can lift the ship.
