>>1, there are a few possibilities. One is that your computer doesn't have enough memory, and therefore is hard faulting. Open up Resource Monitor and go to Memory. You'll see a graph that says Hard Faults/sec. Do something that causes freezes, and see if this graph begins to spike. Also take a look at how much available memory you have. If low memory is needed, you need to go into your computer's advanced performance settings and increase the amount of Virtual Memory (called a Page File).
Another possibility is that your computer is overheating. You need to download a CPU thermometer app (I use CoreTemp 1.0). Make sure your processor isn't getting too hot. If it is, you either need to clean your fans or have the laptop taken apart so the heatsink can be cleaned.
