Wanted to take a poll to see if the dollars were as good as i thought please say more dollars are PC then a macs because.......Im a PC And windows 7 was my idea haha :P (this also goes for android vs apple)

2 Name: Merr : 2011-09-19 16:58 ID:3rt0FHF3 [Del]

its a hard choice macs tend to be more high end and used in business fields esp. visual fields. (unless of course you work for microsoft) but i gotta give pcs credit since they have been improved greatly in recent years. i would have to say for personal use i would use a pc, but if i were doin stuff in visual arts iwould use a mac b/c i used them in class and they are really nice for that

PC = for gaming/personal use
Mac = for business/work/school

As for Android vs Apple, I don't really know, since I don't really own cellular phones and all that.

Linux is the best of both worlds if you can stand it not being as polished as Aero.

6 Name: Sakazaki : 2011-09-21 16:28 ID:/lCed5/P [Del]

PC: Easy to Emulate games and connects to my Sprint EVO 4G.
MAC:Easy for Making Movies,Commercials,Videos and TV Shows, also for connecting to all iDevices but too Expensive.
Linux: too hard to Compile stuff.

i go with PC because its more fun than any other computer.

@Sakaki I've never heard of an Linux computer in this argument before. Linux is an operating system. I don't feel it fits in the 'Mac' vs 'PC' argument as they're both a different classification of computer.

I can't judge how much better one is then the other because I haven't used a mac of the same grade as the PC I'm using right now, but from what I've heard, 'macs' tend to be over hyped in their 'simplicity of use'. The arguments I've been hearing relating to fewer viruses. That being the only namely valid statement, due to fewer viruses being written, due to seeing less use.

Otherwise both have the potential to be the same, the only difference being a Mac tends to be overpriced compared to a PC.

If you take their operating systems into account, Macs have programs on them that tend to attract artists or their ilk, although an experienced computer used probably doesn't see a hassle in buying a PC and installing a Mac's operating system, allowing use of wanted programs.

>>7 that's because i never liked linux in the first place. PC tends to have stuff i do that works. Mac Can Be A Pain when working with stuff i'm not used to.

I'm a PC fan myself, heres my argument: What happens when your computer needs repairs? (Lets say a burnt out processor.)

PC: Take out your old processor and get the model number as well as the manufacturer of the product. Go online and purchase the same processor. Using another computer, go on the internet and print out instructions on how to install your new part. Rejoice in your born again computer.

Mac: Send it in for warranty repairs. Wait five weeks just to find out you need a new computer. And the kicker? Your warranty ran out six weeks ago.

Bottom line is that, personally, I like PC because its very open. I like being able to replace old parts with new ones and making a computer thats more geared for my style.

PC rule, but I like macs too.

I really like Macs, but they are too expensive. I don't know what is better in terms of software, because I've never had the chance to use a Mac for at least 1 hour. In terms of security, Macs are more secure, since the are a huge quantity of virus for Windows, while the Macs still have a little part. In gaming, I think that MACS are better for gaming, because you don't need to upgrade the RAM and CPU of them to run high end games (if you own an iMAC, or something similar in power). So, to me, MACS are better, and I would own one if I could. Currently, I'm using Windows Vista *coughsuckscough* and Ubuntu Linux.
As for Android vs iPhone, I prefer the Android, and I own one. I think it's better because it is open source, and you can do whatever you want with it. The downside of Android is the virus, that I believe are more than the ones for iPhone, but if you choose carefully what you download and install, you should be fine.
Also, I think that if we could put the open source of Android on the hardware of iPhone, having the Windows Phone 7 User Interface, it would be an awsome phone.
As for operating systems, just as a curiosity, in Durara!! they use a made-out distribution of Linux!

15 Name: MastaT : 2011-09-24 17:10 ID:Je9rEpGO [Del]

I've been a PC user since win98... I've used 95,98,2000,xp,vista, and 7...
But I still like Mac's. I don't own one but I have had the chance to experience using one and I loved it. I think Mac's are better for graphic designing(which I do), plus the only issue's I find with mac's is that sometimes programs or games won't work. Other then that I haven't heard of issues with them... as a pc user, I've come across a lot of issues :\. If I get another computer upgrade, I might try getting my hands on a mac.
As for android vs apple, I have no experience with the android, but I would like to... so for now I'll go with iPhone

One issue I feel the need to point out before further discussion takes place. Does anyone know the rough percentage for how many computer users who actually own a Mac instead of a PC? In 2004, a survey found that about 10% of computer users in the US were Mac users.

Now, this my seem like a digression, but stay with me here. Does anyone here know basic economic theory? Basically, part of it can be boiled down to "You make the most profit by pandering to the largest unsaturated customer base". Now, which OS has the biggest market share, and how many computers are there in the world? Now try to work out why there are so many viruses for Windows, and so few for Macs. In short, the reason why Macs have next to no viruses is because they haven't attracted much attention from virus makers as their market share is too small to bother targeting with the standard style of malware attacks.

Also, before someone pedals the "Macs don't get viruses" card, read this article: http://betanews.com/2011/05/25/can-it-be-8-out-of-10-mac-owners-don-t-use-anti-malware-software/

>>14 yo, to get a PC that can work like a mac, you will have to spend approximately the same as you spend for buying a new mac. firstly you'll need to upgrade something something and something. and by the way you also buy the sleek design, ohmygodsogreat monitor, and its.. unpopularity with viruses.

I'm simple, and macs is more for simple (or maybe stupid?) users. while PC is kinda complicated (maybe for a very computer-ish person?) and I don't really want to learn about it thoroughly.

and about iPhone vs android. damn it's hard decision. maybe for hardware I like iPhone better (because of the touchscreen?), and android is kind for geeks to be messed with.. so for starters = iPhone, for intermediate users = android (or iPhone) xDD

BTW, I didn't say that mac sucks or Pc sucks. in fact that they have their own ways to be operated. If one ask my preference, I would choose Mac over PC :D that's it!

Having owned Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Snow Leopard, and having operated Windows 7 and OS X Lion, I can honestly say that I prefer Mac, especially when it comes to laptop computers.
While Windows will work for basic purposes, if you're doing basic stuff or working with certain business-type stuff, and it'll tend to run more games without fuss.
Macs, I find, run much more smoothly, and I prefer their navigational system to the Windows OSes. Plus, it comes with all kinds of creative features and has better graphics, which just suits my needs better (I'm a graphic novel artist), so it's worth the extra cash.
Plus, my Air? Super durable.

Well I have to say both. I was a die hard pc guy but when my laptop died, someone gave me a macbook and said if I could fix it, I could have it. I really didn't have a choice since I was in desperate need for a laptop. So I fixed it, loaded OS X Lion, and installed windows seven. I must say I think OS X is awesome.

45 Name: Black : 2011-10-23 15:43 ID:z8692Aec [Del]

Overall- Mac. However, if your a gaming type of person, definitely go for windows. But if you can afford a mac, just ask around for a windows install disc (re-install works too) and run boot camp. Mac+Windows 7 on one laptop.... Amazing. That, and Apple has lots of awesome tech specs. (my low- end customized apple laptop has 2.3 Ghz, 8GB of ram, and over 500 GB of disc storage.

PC to this day is unstable as fuck.

Mac is based off of UNIX, which IS stable as fuck. But costs a pretty penny.

Linux is the best both worlds, allowing for maximum customization pending on whatever distro.

Spend some money every few years, Invest in a Mac, or learn how to program and efficiently use freeware. I chose the latter.

57 Name: B& !L9vJQG5K1A : 2011-11-13 15:19 ID:IZuDGfat [Del]

Most people tend to not care about the the hardware aspect of either one. If it works for extensive periods of time, then it's good, right? :P

PC has interchangeable hardware, allowing you to make whatever kind of PC you want as long as you have the cash for it.

Macs cost a lot, and I guess you could say is an investment since you really don't need to change the hardware in order for most software to work for a while...unless you take shitty care of it. I don't have much knowledge on Apple Hardware, so I'm really not one to say.

But if you play your cards right, you can have a pretty decent custom PC for at least half the price of a Macintosh.

I'm a big fan of Apple computer's hardware. The whole unit (I'm talking about their laptops) is so well put together. I have only owned PCs, which I dual boot with ubuntu Linux. The premium price is being paid for a premium product. if you don't have the budget, any pc will suffice. They are different products for different markets. For example, no one would ever purchase a Mac to play games (this is due to other injustices.

hardware:
the best way to go is to build your own computer, as that way you will pay the least money, have a machine that is custom tailored to fit your own needs, and be able to replace any part that may go bad, as you know it from inside out. if that's too much trouble, however, then practically any vendor out there offering pre-configured builds (i've had good experiences with HP [although they're now going out of business D=] and ASUS) is a better option than macintosh computers. simply put, macintosh places form over function, wanting their machines to look good rather than to operate properly. a perfect example of this is their 'magsafe' power adaptors. these adaptors are small, airtight, thick-shelled, and well insulated, resulting in a sleek and shiny outside... and multiple house fires. there have been multiple recorded instances where these chargers, when left unattended, will heat up to the point where the plastic casing actually melts (i had this happen to myself, three times in a single year, as my first computer was a circa 2007 macbook, which we'll get to in a bit...). in addition, the charger's head was not properly connected to the wire in the original design, so that it would disconnect, leaving exposed wires and even more fire-starting potential. on top of all this, their hardware is ridiculously overpriced. the going price for most laptop chargers is somewhere around 30-40 dollars, whereas these magsafe chargers are a full 70.

software:
as i said, the first computer i ever owned was a secondhand macbook given to me by a friend who had upgraded to the latest model, as i couldn't afford to buy my own. this computer came with OSX, and using it was absolutely painful. the ui seemed specifically designed to hide away from me anything i might have found useful or functional. performing even the simplest of tasks took dozends of clicks (using the mouse with one freaking button! even right clicking required a keybinding!). after about a day of this, i gave up and installed debian-based linux instead. it took a bit of searching around and modifying things, as not everything worked out of the box, but once it all did i absolutely loved it. if simplicity is what you want, debian, (or it's offshoots fedora, ubuntu, mint, etcetera) are definitely the way to go. installing and updating new software is even simpler than it is on a mac, requiring only the click of a button from some software manager or a quick apt-get install from the terminal. and if you put together the hardware yourself, the 'working to make it function initially' step disappears as well, as you can figure out what will cause issues beforehand and avoid it. in addition, practically anything you can think of is absolutely free, including things that are available to neither osx nor windows. the best part about linux, though, is that anything and everything is optional, and can be added, removed, or edited to your liking. the only thing that comes standard is the kernel (the bare necessities for interacting with a machine's hardware) itself, and even that can have additional modules added. as for windows, i see it as the lesser of two evils when it comes to choosing an operating system. both windows and osx are unbelievably bloated. they weigh in at around 10-15 gigabytes for a clean install. how do they even manage to make it that large? the largest linux installation i've ever encountered was around 4.5, and the kernel itself is still under 80 megabytes. modern linux os's can be compressed and live-booted from a 700 meg cd and still offer all the functionality of either mac or wondows. wondows software is very unstable, very oversized, and, recently, has been chasing after mac in the "shiny pictures" department. the only differences i noticed between xp and windows 7 were a few minimal security improvements to the most vulnerable operating system in history, transparent windows, pictures rather than words in the task bar, convoluted ribbon whatsits rather than the functional menus they used to have, and an increase of 9 gigabytes to match the bloat of osx.

Defiantly Mac, come-on people it is a fact that the Macbook pro, Macbook air, Mac pro, and the iMac are the most advanced/high tech computers in the world that the public can own. Take into consideration that apple's software (OSX Lion) makes a huge difference in how well your apple computer will work. I use the newly released macbook pro i7 processor and I gotta say i'v worked on pc's running windows 7 and it's funny how those pc's have not even come close to comparing to how well a mac runs ^__^ and ya you might think that the price of an apple computer is high price but for awesome hardware+awesome software all put into one is definatly worth it :)
