The last martial arts thread was good but It needs more room for discussion.
What is martial arts to you? What do you practice? How long have you been? Do you want to do martial arts? Is martial arts fighting, self defence, art ECT to you

Now that I have the base of this thread down I shall go on a tangent thingo. I am self taught in MMA. I did it for 2 years but quit a long time ago. I kept up my training from time to time and after meeting alot of people who practiced in diffrent arts I learned from them kind of giving me a style of my own (Mainly a mix of Kick-boxing, karate and some New Zealand fighting style I forgot the name of) Martial arts is my life I NEED TO TRAIN MORE but sadly lessons are expensive and I'm pretty weak.

I practice ITF style Tae Kwon-Do and been doing so for the last 10 years, I am a First Dan and I am going to try go for my second Dan next year, A martial art/s to me is a way of self defence.

Martial arts to me enriches your mind; sharpens your mental strength and cultivates a community of like-minded people. It doesn't have to be self defence. 書道 (shodo) (calligraphy) is also considered a form of martial art.

>>2 Wow thats cool. To me its more of a lifestyle
>>3 Thats cool. There is a Aikido and Kenjutsu place near me that I've been considering going to for around a year now. What is aikido and kendo like?

>>4 I guess it is a lifestyle with out really thinking about it in doing lessons twice a week and doing self training at home, then even thinking about doing training when you can't.

I've been doing martial arts for four years. I haven't been to any competitiona yet but my place gets super competitive.
What are competitions like?

I do Brazilian jiu jitsu, and I have been doing it for some months now. I really love it, and one of the things that makes it so great is that I'm able to focus 100% when I'm training.

I do Krav Maga and Kali. I have done some jui-jitsu, but not in some time. Never been to a competition since most of what I know is to be applied if someone is trying to kill me, but those of us that train together do get pretty competitive, and sparring can end interestingly because of that.

How do you like it so far?

I attended to Taekwondo lessons for seven years and sadly I had to stop because of my studies, but for me it's a wonderful training for both body and mind.
I still practice by myself and I'll try to return to my Dojang as soon as I can manage it.
