I want to start snowboarding. I really don't like the idea of getting hurt in the process, but oh well.

i have gone on ice for the past 4[5] years, and only got hurt this year due to a crappy snow blower <,<..

Just don't ever catch yourself by fully extending your arms, use them as shocks to softly catch you, and don't be afraid to squat down to regain your balance.

Also!!! Do Not Sit Mid Slope! People like me might hit you! :P

For those who know a lot about snowboarding.

I currently have a snowboard that I bought and used last year. I haven't gone snowboarding at all yet this year but I'm going this Friday with some friends. The question I had was for waxing.

When / why should I wax my snowboard?

I heard / read that that waxing will make it perform better (faster and turn easier) and that it will keep the life of the board longer. However if I don't wax my board is it really that big of a deal? As I don't want to go terribly fast yet anyway haha.

I went snowboarding with my brother and cousin last weekend!

Fell on my ass so many times I lost count...Still we had fun for the most part.

Paoli Peaks is awesome.

>>4 My brother does some snowboard waxing, And here's some info:
A: If the wax is scraped up, it will drag. if you hit slush while turning at all, you will most likely fall face[back] first into said slush/snow/ice.

B: If you hit a rock or sharp piece of ice, it will most likely only scrap/cut the wax, no wax, scrap/cut on the bottom, then it wont quite wax right.

Also, i live on the eastern US, And go to a slope called "Cattaloochee" And they mainly focus on snow making.
It is the best[Really the worst] slope to learn on, five feet of ice, then slush, then ice, then powder! it's insane!
But oh so fun.

[Sorry if this is too late.]

Haha I did end up going snowboarding the other day but no worries. Thanks for responding back.

I talked to some other buddies and they also told me it was more or less to go faster / have a bit better control. And that it was good for storage / board health.

I'll get my board waxed at the end of this season.

Thanks mate.
