i hate the Foil it is sissy to me. only 4 pound blade?
Itallian Rapier is where it is at! 23 pound sword...all stab. now thats a sport!

I used to fence..but I failed because my teacher kept saying I needed to try offense, but when I tried offensive stances, I always got caught, then I would guard, never ending cycle of failure.

Surprising how little attention this thread has had. Sure it's a slow board, but I was sure there would be more fencers out there.
That said, it's an excellent sport. A more aggressive sport, it's not unusual to get a few bruises out of a practice. And yet, people still practice it.
It's a fascinating sport that really works out your control and balance, with techniques that vary from person to person.
Personally I prefer sabre, but it's a personal choice I suppose.

I do medieval fencing, Its not that far different from traditional fencing. In medieval fencing you use all kind of weapons from medieval age such as sword, rapier,hasta weapon, dagger shield etc.

Foil, and Epee but I prefer Epee. I dislike doing sabre simply because it's so outlandishly unrealistic to how real sword fighting was. I slashing weapon would have to be swung in much wider arcs than a sabre can be used in. Not to say I think it's less of a skill or a dumb weapon. I just like the semi-realisticness of epee over the lightsaber battle of sabre.
