When we're younger we tend to identify ourselves with the extremes within the communities we fall, we think of our past selves as "super big anime fans" but really we were all casuals, just engaged casuals.
You need to take a step back and identify what anime WAS and IS for you, find the shows you like and ask why... because It's not story quality, animation quality or anything along those lines.
It will either be release cycle (If you were into long form series) or just growing out of it.
Not might I add, because it is "Childish," growing out stuff just naturally happens.
For a recommendation though I'm currently going through Gundam ZZ so I'll recommend the 1981 re-cap film of the 79 series! Good luck!
