Japanese surname placement (3)

1 Name: Manko : 2020-03-23 16:02 ID:jGGTwc1G [Del]

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to post this question but this is the random board so I might as well give it a try. So I'm currently writing about something like story characters and I wonder if I should put the family surname infront of the character's first name. Because the character I made had a Japanese mother and a dad who is western (I have not think of his part yet) and even though they're like that, should I still put the family's name in front of the character's first name, since the mom is Japanese. Pls give solid/legit answer. It will make me please.

I personally think it would matter more what country your character was raised in. If they were raised in Japan where the family name comes first, that'd be what your character would be used to. Although, I have had Japanese exchange students at my high school who switched the the first name last name format while they were in America.
There's not really a definite answer and it depends on other factors. But I think that if your character wasn't raised in Japan and doesn't live there, then they'd likely follow the first last format.

It might depend on what sort pf relationship you want the characters to have. It could be subtle or very forward. Like if the father was really doting and respectful of the mother, or if she was controlling, she might have their last name first. Like 'Johnson Alice,' or something. Or maybe if they had family problems such as separation, the kid might have changed their name at some point, so 'Alice Musume', or whatever. All sort of things. :)

Maybe for legal reasons, such as where the child was born, or whose family helped raise her, or something, shw might have one name or the other... But if you don't feel like going that deeply into it, perhaps just choose whatever sounds best. Aesthetically. Hehe.
