I was just thinking about this, but if there really was a secret organization that anyone could be part of, it would seem like an Alternate Reality Game.

An Alternate Reality Game is like a story that plays out in the real world, in real time. It is initially created by a person or group but expands and evolves with participant input. Participants generally find more details about the story through puzzles provided by the creator.
