Did Durarara kill any chance of this kind of group really existing? (11)

Like, it makes for a great story of course. And something like the Dollars seems like a thing that would have formed naturally irl, considering the power of the internet in this day and age. But instead, we got a site that tries really hard to distance itself from the source material, but real talk, it's mostly larpers here...
Could a successful dollars-like group form in real life?
Could this site really become successful enough to live up to its inspiration?
Don't get me wrong, no one hates this more than I.

Nobody seems to acknowledge that the group in the series was actually pretty small-scale, and totally localized to their area. There's always power in numbers, but actual presence is equally important.

FindMuck is right, we're acting like we're trying to make a difference, but most of us are too lazy to actually get up and do something, and those of us that are willing to do something are spread too thin to make a difference.

>>1 That's because the actual dollars are better hidden. If you want some internet freedom fighters, look to anonymous. Now can you people please shut the fuck up about "real dollars"

>>4 Wishful thinking.

>>2 I'm not trying to expect what happened in an anime to happen in real life, but in Durarara the Dollars grew from a rumor spread in the internet about a chat room for a "colorless color gang" that had no leader. Then it was later decided that they would do good acts around Ikebukuro and make a positive influence, but they gained their large following in a solid area through rumor and mystery. Here, we joined the Dollars because we wanted that in the show, but if we wamy to be serious about this we need to rely on more anonymous advertising if we want to stay a group for a long time, and have a lot of dedicated members.

Maybe we could even add a link to this website under the tagline to help spread the message that it's an online group ~

>The world isn't as bad as you think
>The series literally ends with the main character killing themselves, and the only reason he livees is because Celty-ex-machina

>>9 I don't remember that ending, darn(!) I was spoiled! I don't think I finished the series anyways though, and I probably never will, lol.

>>9 yes, but my point was specifically how the Dollars were formed, so if you're implying that this group is going to end with people dying, then I'd take a step back and realize we're a bunch of people on computers signing petitions and donating to charity and geeking out about stuff we like. The Dollars tagline meant something in it's own right, and Mikado going crazy was just a manifestation of the group getting out of hand. He wanted the Dollars to end up being a group that helped people, but everything spiraled out of control and he lost his cool. Like I said before, I wouldn't even expect something that happened in an anime to happen the way it would in reality, which was why I added an alternative to spreading our word they way it was in DRRR.
