This is a simple thread. State any philosophy or pseudophilosophy that may be going through your head.

For instance:

The empty horizon calls to the open mind. "Fill me," it cries. "Fill me with adventure and mystery of your making." The open mind takes this not as a request, but as a challenge to be conquered.

A: "stars are meant to guide us, right?"
B: "Stars are not meant to do anything. They just are, as anything here. It is up to us how we use our surroundings: whether friend or foe, tool or thorn is determined by our goals~"

Realizing that humans will vanish completely without any creature remembering us, frees you from the desire to be useful.

we can be nihilistic heroes if we find happiness in the meaninglessness

All human actions are based of selfishness. We help others because it makes us feel good or because we want praise or get closer to god or something else along those lines. We help are friends cause it's more fun to be around them when they're happy or cause we feel sad when they do.

No man is an island, entire of itself. Each is a part of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less.As well as if a Promontory were. As well as if a manor of thine own or tine friends were. Each mans death diminishes me, for I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee. - John Donne

this part of the poem truly shaped the way i think. it made me think for my fellow man and opened up my life to the wonderful void of philosophy

Humans are not unique. They are just one of the seven billion people on earth with a different manifestation of one person.

All humans are the same.

>>14 I've had a (brief) OBE before, so I agree with the concept to some extent. However, much like proving the existence of any afterlife, I won't be able to fully subscribe to the belief until I die, at which point, it's too late.
Is there a name for this kinda paradox?

>>14 well the only thing we can know for sure is "cogito ergo sum"
if we doubt everything. descartes was only able to say that the world we are seeing is the same for all of us because of the assumption that a good god wouldnt fool us, but there is no proof for the existence of a good god, so we might aswell all be locked to a computer and live in a matrix

>>16 Interesting. So then you brought another point to discuss do humans have free will? If so explain.

>>17 thats a tough one you can interpret it in many ways(here is some food for thought):
1. maybe there is a higher being that gives us an essence or controls our actions, at the same time a higher being could also have given us free will so our actions have actual meaning to them.
2.(satre)you might say that we are doomed to be free, not only can we choose to do anything we want, but we also have to take the full responsibility for our every action. Our free will is the result that there is noone that made us we have no essence, which some might interpret as our lives being meaningless, but we are also free to choose the meaning of our lives and to chase our goals with everything that we are capable of doing
3. if we could know the position and movement of every atom we could predict the future. That means that all action are predestined on a timeline, also ours since(when you break it down to it) we are nothing more than a bunch of atoms.

>>18 I happen to be an existentialist myself lol. So then on #3, do you agree with modal realism. And I just happen to find it hilarious that we a better scientific foundation regarding time trave than we do about the existence of god.
