So me and my family got on the topic of murder (idk how) when someone asked if murder was acceptable for the right reasons. I kinda wanna know what you guys think. Is murder ok if its for a good reason, or is it bad no matter what?

its only murder if its bad, otherwise its killing(cough cough making the world a better place cough)

That depends entirely on the context and culture.
For example, what do you mean by "right" reasons?
In the Western countries, murder is rarely condoned for any reason other than the person in question poses a serious danger to society (e.g. terrorist).

However, in other countries (e.g. Egypt) murder is sometimes not only condonable but also applauded (although they do call it execution instead of murder). Reasons may include person A insults [some religion] therefore he is punishable by [beheading/cruxification/live burial etc.]. In that example, people cite religion as the reason but the real reason rarely concerns religion at all depending on how you look at it.

The most important factor seems to be conformity to society. For example, if you dare express free thinking (e.g. being critical about religion) when said religion abhors such a thing, you're dead. If you do something the majority of people don't like (e.g. being gay) you're dead. Not only will people condone the murder (execution), they will also hold a banquet to celebrate it.

tl;dr: if the thought of murder makes you queasy, don't do it.

As far as I'm concerned, the only time murder is okay is if someone asks to be killed, or if somehow killing that person will stop the deaths of more than one other person.

Isn't morality what leads you to decide that killing innocents are wrong? That same morality can decide that killing indiscriminately is ok. And what shapes one's morality when you're but a mere baby? Parental attitudes, people's behaviour, and words. In a larger context, culture.

Also have you neverheard religions preaching about what is acceptable and what is not? Religion is a method of controlling the masses by instilling morality in its believers.
