Random game idea (10)

A fantasy mmo where you dont have character creation or race select
When you make an account and start a game you cant make any other character. When you start a game your character will be made randomly gender, appearance, race and place your born. If your lucky or unlucky you can be born as a mob (goblin or troll).

If there is a game like this would you play?

Nah, seems more like something you'd only play if really high. Especially with all the RNG involved.

You must be able to regenerate somehow. I'm not playing as some ugly ass character that I can't even dress up in pretty clothes.

I was considering using a system like this for an rpg I've been working on (in the background) for quite a while, but I honestly think the character generation itself can't be completely random if you want long-term players. They definitely need a way to switch characters without switching accounts, as well as some way to customize the character they were assigned -- even if the body type stays the same, you can let them choose interesting gear or aesthetic items like wigs and accessories, etc. so that they have a reason to be invested in the character (even before they've grinded into it). Alternatively, you can allow them to regenerate the appearance of the character using a limited-range rng, basically meaning that the appearance can be altered but not drastically, giving the user a chance to find a "post plastic surgery" version of the same character, something they find interesting enough to use.

The only way I could see a completely random one working is if the lore is designed to imply you're possessing existing characters in the world rather than playing as your own. Imagine a god-like animation of swooping down on some poor defenseless NPC and being like "haha, got ur body, bitch". But even that would do better if there was some degree of control (maybe through an overarching skill that can be earned).

There's also the concept of locked numbers. Say, you can fill out x number of character information slots, and the rest are randomly generated by the game. So you could choose to lock in the race and gender, but the appearance and starting stats would be randomly generated, or vice-versa. Maybe let them choose what to lock in, then generate what isn't locked, and *then* let them fill in the remaining slots (so it can best fit what was generated). --just ideas.

Is being a tree an option?

Maybe a single player experience instead. Jumps right into the game, couple objectives, level ends by the game killing you. Then you wake up in a new location, with new people, calling you a different name, with a completely different set of minimal objectives. Rinse and repeat.

The story arch could be based around piecing together what the characters that you're playing as have in common.

well going in more details. The character can change their appearance because the character will start out at an age right before puberty and as you level up you can focus on the cosmetics. This is a what if so I will go wild. As your character levels up if your characters got lots of strenght then your character would look more ripped. If he got beat up or just took lots of damage while leveling up you would get scars and stuff. With how you played the game appearance should change. Leveling up would make your character more diffrent looking.

Idea 1 What if you can level up once in a set time depending on your race. If your a goblin you level up once in a week. If your a human then in 3 week. Depending on what you did during the time before you level up will give you boost or penalty in stats while changing your appearance.

Idea 2: Instead of time how about not having a level but just stats? And ways to increase stats are all diffrent.
HP would go up depending on how much you are eating what your eating how much your moving or fighting.
Agillity would increase depending on how much you move or how much time you spent with movement or light weapon.
No levels just stats and depending on stats your appearance changes.

This will be intresting on a random race place character in an mmo or a singlebplayer game.

Should I use this in a light novel or something? lol

>>4 I know its a joke but treant or tree person it could be an option. 0ㆍ000000001% chance or something

>>6 For the light novel comment, there are already some visual novels that use systems like these, where the character's appearance changes depending on the day to day actions you choose through the course of the story. Most of the ones with it have it as a core part of the story, though.

Like there's one where you're supposed to put the character on a diet, and she only gets the guy she wants if she reaches his ideal weight before summer, her sprite updating to match how what you ate would have affected her weight during the week, etc. The sprite updates are a central part of the story. It'd be refreshing to see one that just treats it as an extra gameplay aspect for a regular plot.

But it's obviously easier to do in 3D games since you can subtly alter morph targets rather than re-draw character parts (though I'm sure you can manipulate it similarly in 2D if you're okay with warped textures). GTA V also uses a similar avatar alteration system (where your skills and activities change it's appearance).

I would like idea two better. I don't want there to be a minimum amount of time I have to wait for a game to level me up; it reminds me of those bait-y microtransaction facebook games. Idea one would be punishing your new and potentially most active players by limiting their progress :0

i like light novel so this kinda system feels awesome. The players who were born goblin troll or gnoll would be killable in quests smaller low level players would be counted as a mob to major races like human and elf. For these mob players decent items are hard to find so they should hunt (ambush) humans or travellers in group. If you level up and become strong while becoming the top of the goblins or just a strong individual then you will be wanted ( kill quest) by other race players.

MMO would be awesome if lots of people play it. New players can only start at a place where there is at least 50 people in for the even rare race it could change. Random place would mean you could be poor or rich. If your lucky human player then you could be born a noble or if your unlucky then you could be born in a village or even worse. For every race list goes on and on and each race could have a unique playstyle for themselves. But what if you wanna trade and stuff but born as a goblin? then you can go the hard way and do something unimaginable like learning human language.

A game like this is impossible I know but its just a what if.

There's already game like this but I forgot the name of it. It wasn't a fantasy mmo, its more like a real life simulation where you character is made randomly, and most of your choices affects your future. I keep losing even though the choices I made are pretty decent. Though if there was actually a game which is a fantasy mmo, I'll probably play it.
