I see a lot of peaple use the word "Otaku" and I did some searching about it and somehow it seems not to be a nice word to call someone by,am i wrong ? does it have different meaning in different countries? When you call someone otaku you mean some nerd peaple who have no life and it's kinda rude ? And how does it sound in Japan ?

I bet in Japan it'd be horrible to call someone an otaku. But here I reckon (in a western country) you can easily proclaim yourself as one amongst family and friends and it only translates to them as 'anime lover'.

My japanese teacher (100% pure-bred Japanese) proudly declares himself as an otaku.
Depends on whether you're talking to older / younger generation.

Your right, Otaku is bad, mainly because Otaku's are mainly in America in my opinion and usually pieces of weeb trash with no fucking life, this really isn't all that hard to know.

IMHO. "Otaku" is not only referring to "Anime Lover" or "Someone who only stays at home and do nothing (NEET & Hikikomori)".

But actually the word "Otaku" means someone who is dedicated their life to a hobby. They spend more time, money, and effort (than some normal people do) to their hobby.

There are a lot of otaku (not only Anime Otaku) : Train otaku , military otaku, seiyuu otaku, idol-otaku, game otaku, etc.

FYI, "Otaku" in japanese is considered to a rude word. If you calling someone (in Japan) with "Otaku" it would be a really bad insult. From here I just don't understand why a lot of people on internet are so proud being called "Otaku". :/

>>5 >>2 It'd likely a group of Americas trying to Americanize a word that is from another culture and language to mean something else which they have no right to, the only people who can change the meaning of the word is if you are 100% Japanese and are living in Japan anyone else can GTFA.

If you went to Japan and said out loudly "I am an otaku" people would likely look at you strangely and try and stay far away from you.

Just because in some Anime the word otaku is used a lot it is meant to be an insult to whom ever that it is aimed at, not like saying "oh you such a geek or nerd".

>>5>>6>>4 I'm sure there are different meanings in a lot of peoples points of view but it might refer to mean things in America maybe and in Japanese it means anime lover NEET and stuff like that like what Shinju-Q and Jace and Kaisuke explained xDD

It translates roughly to "geek" or "nerd." Whether or not those are mean is up to you. I know you understand now, but I felt a translation into English might help anyway.
