This is what it looked like outside by the end of March.
April was a little better.

And suddenly we have bright green grass and maybe flowers blooming.
I still don't understand...

Sealand is an unrecognised self-declared state that claims Roughs Tower, an offshore platform located in the North Sea approximately 12 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk, England, as its territory.

>>25 Sealand actually has a pretty interesting history. The platform was built during WWII to mount anti-aircraft guns on to protect against German bombers. After the war, most of the towers were disassembled, but that one was just abandoned. It was actually located in what was at the time international waters, so England didn't even have a legal claim to it.

The guy who founded the country just sailed on a boat one day and declared the platform a sovereign nation. The British Navy sent a ship out to try and evict him, and he hailed them warning them to keep their distance, then fired warning shots at it. He was arrested and they hauled him to court on charges of treason for firing on a navy vessel, but the courts ruled that since Sealand was outside of national waters it wasn't a part of the UK and when the boat didn't change its course they were within their rights, according to the Geneva Convention, to fire warning shots. Since then the UK and Sealand have had a peaceful relationship. A few years back new treaties expanded territorial waters and according to the new lines Seland should technically belong to the UK and a few square kilometers of land on the british coast should belong to Sealand, but neither country has tried to enforce these claims and UK acknowledges Sealand's sovereignty.

A few years back someone hired some German mercenaries to try and take over Sealand. The Prince (as the founder has titled himself) fled with his family, then came back with a bunch of his friends, all with guns, and mounted a counterattack. They drove away most of the mercenaries, and eventually released all but the leader who they held as a prisoner of war. The people behind the whole thing tried to get legal actions taken but the UN said that the attack was an act of war, Sealand hadn't broken any treaties or conventions, and they were completely within their rights to hold the merc leader as a PoW until hostilities were concluded. They eventually did negotiate an end to the fight and got the merc leader released. So Sealand has even fought and won a war.

Let me tell you a little story. I live in Texas on the border of Mexico and my grandparents used to live there. This is the case for a lot of people in my town. Now once kids reach the age around 8 or 9 they get into that phase where they think everything grandma and grandpa say is for real. Which is why when they say you can both cast the Mal de ojo or the Evil Eye Curse and protect yourself by waving around a chicken egg, buncha little kids start thinking that they're witches and shit. And because we couldn't sneak actual chickens into school, you could become the coolest kid by getting several dozens of chicken nuggets and sacrificing them...so yeah 2nd grade was some intense shit.

>>39 You obviously know NOTHING about Japan or their history or their culture.
Because America has done some bad shit, but I would never, ever want Japan's history. And then the way they glorify it to this day... Recent generations of Americans are beginning to acknowledge our faults in the past. But if you ask someone in the streets of Japan about the Nanjing massacre, or ANY of the massacres and mass rapes and murder contests that occurred during Japan's occupation in China, most of them wouldn't know what you're talking about or at least wouldn't know in detail.

If you had said something like Singapore, then I would've understood. Or maybe S. Korea.

Well, I admire Japan because of its culture and especially its train system. I'm very aware of what America has done to Japan... we're terrible. But its not my fault I was born in America, or that we did terrible stuff to Japan. One reason I like Japan so much is because I hardly even know my own heritage, and my family doesn't speak another language or have any traditions... sorry if I offended anyone, I just think America does have its problems.

47 Name: Kurenai : 2015-05-22 14:49 ID:CmlDLzYF [Del]

>>46 Well, Japan has done some pretty crap things as well, even to the US, There's obviously Pearl Harbor, and then there's all that they did to their POWs during the Pacific Theatre, which was far worse than anything the Nazis or even the USSR did. And they really don't teach any of that stuff to anyone.

Once, my school had a foreign exchange student from Japan, nice guy. We later found out that he had absolutely no idea what the Holocaust was or that it even happened, presumably because the role Japan played during WWII. We didn't even know until we started learning about it in history class and he started crying. It was that upsetting to him.

>>53 Hey... You do realize that not everything you see on the internet is the truth, right?
All of those were from http://www.dumblaws.com/laws/united-states/montana
A site that basically spreads a great deal of falsehoods without providing sources or statutes as evidence that these laws even exists.

I can only say one thing about the mail one: It's a federal crime for ANYONE to open up another person's mail.

The relevant statute is 18 U.S. Code § 1703 - Delay or destruction of mail or newspapers, section (b), paragraph 2:

Whoever, without authority, opens, or destroys any mail or package of newspapers not directed to him, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
It's also illegal to take mail out of your box with intent to prevent it reaching someone else (§ 1702, emphasis mine):

Whoever takes any letter, postal card, or package out of any post office or any authorized depository for mail matter, or from any letter or mail carrier, or which has been in any post office or authorized depository, or in the custody of any letter or mail carrier, before it has been delivered to the person to whom it was directed, with design to obstruct the correspondence, or to pry into the business or secrets of another, or opens, secretes, embezzles, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

>>54 Dumb laws isn't totally bullshit. Most of the ones like >>53 are probably old laws that the gov't forgot to remove when new legislation was instated. The boy scouts in our area used to have a project every year where they'd go to the local law library and take out recent publications to discuss the area's laws. We found a ton of similar bullshit that was still considered active law when my brother did it.

"A satanic temple unveiled a one ton statue of an idol in Detroit. It’s nice to see Detroit finally getting its act together taking a step up from crime into satanism.
When asked for comment the mayor of Detroit slowly levitated, spun his head around and in latin said “The Day of Reckoning is near”
The statue is of Baphomet the Goat Headed half man, half animal that represents plurality and reconciling opposites to some, and to others is a grave warning of the consequences of getting too drunk at a frat party with a goat. “Of course he’s yours, he’s got your horns and your father’s eyes!” "
