Yo, do y'all believe in the idea that the spatial-temporal coordination amongst the planets and stars during one's birth can hold influence over one's personality and affairs?

Post your sign(s) and opinions ITT.

Example: Herr Dumbo (myself)
Sun sign is 1 degree in Virgo
Ascendant is 22 degrees Capricorn
Moon sign is 3 degrees in Cancer

In short, I'm supposedly an introspective, dreamy dude with a penchant for pragmatism and flakey melodramatics. And it's true!!

>>3 The absence of evidence is evident of either a lack of effort to attain it or the lack of it. Neither looks good for you. However, I believe in things I have little evidence for as well so I'm not trying to bash.

All the horoscopes say the same thing

>>4 pretty much this
I believe in things I can't see, things that can't be proven through traditional methods.
Also, I think there is at least something to all this astrological stuff, I mean, we are made of cosmic dust after all.

>NO FUN ALLOWED EVER
No, the absence of evidence is due to the blinders imposed by one's predominant paradigm. I shouldn't have to tell you that this sort of stuff runs on metaphor, association, and intuition, NOT hard facts and Baconian cause-and-effect nonsense. Quit trying to put a square peg in a round hole and lighten up, chaps.

>>3 So you're telling me that the greek, roman, egyptian, and etc gods ALL EXISTED. There's no evidence THERE. Besides, I have my own evidence. That shit's all BS.

Oh yes, I've read my horoscope a few times. It said shit like, You'll get an amazing opportunity at work today! You'll meet the love of your life today! So far, I've yet to have one astrology thing come true.

>>6 So you're telling me, that because we're made of space dust, that space still effects us? In that case, the lining and positioning of the trees effect my book because it's made of trees.

To all, I give things that can't be proven by traditional means a chance. Honestly, I do. I believe in things that can't be proven by traditional means because I gave it a chance, and it turned out to work. But if it doesn't prove itself, then I'm going to trash it. I won't waste my time with that crap.

For instance, I believe in ghosts. There's no hardcore scientific evidence of such, but I've hda several times that I heard someone walking around when I was home alone. No, it wasn't floorboards creaking. I actually heard someone walking or falling down stairs.

I kept an open mind, and I got my proof. Proof that the astrology crap has yet to give me.

I can belief an infinite number of things about the universe based on the same information. You're expecting me to somehow come to the same conclusion as you? I believe something totally different from you, why don't you believe the same thing? Oh wait, maybe because of your upbringing, experiences, etc. Sort of like blinders imposed by one's predominant paradigm, if you will.

Or, maybe because it happened to work for you and it doesn't work for other people. A broken clock tells the right time twice a day. As a matter of fact, it's impossible to make a clock that never tells the correct time. That means it's statistically impossible to make a system of predictions like this that never works. Keep that in mind.

Also, don't put "Post your opinions ITT" if you are going to be an ass when people do. This thread is looking more and more garbage by the minute.

>>7 "Magick will not free itself from occultism until we have strangled the last astrologer with the guts of the last spiritual master."
You've the kind of opinions that make this true.
I mean, I said there was something to it. Maybe not what you're saying but something nonetheless.

>>8 space is not trees, Lei. Ya goof.
Also, totally believe in ghosts. I think I'm one some times. Sometimes I think we're all kind of like ghosts.

1) You understand that the basis of religion, spirituality, and the semiotic concept underlying "god" is based on humanity's understanding of itself in relation to the universe right? i.e. Hermes/Thoth representing intelligence, communication, "magick" etc.. Why are you taking it literally?! Once again you are trying to apply left-brained rigour to a subject that relies on right-brain kind of thinking.

2) No, you haven't given it a chance. Reading the newspaper column written by your local crank isn't the same thing as the actual practice. That's like me saying "science is bullshit 'cause my chemistry experiments involving pepsi and mentos didn't work!!!" Derisive accounts of any topic of interest based on essentially ZERO research will not grant your argument any merit, buddy.

Meh, different strokes. I'm not here to shove this down your throat -- so do the thread a favour and stop trying to make it appear that way.

Yeah, I asked for opinions: like, well thought-out and articulated arguments. Is that so hard to ask? ...and what do I get? Behold:

- an image macro clearly made by some graphic arts wizkid whose dismissive take on astrology is likely the by-product of his mortal loathing of hippies spawned after the poor schmuck got teased in high-school 'cause he didn't like smoking weed. The poster was trying to prove to the world that he's a hardcore rationalist or someshit, lel.
- in response to my appropriately jocular reply to said image, is some platitude probably ripped off of Neil deGrasse Tyson or some other popscience figurehead, supplemented with a tone of sneering condescension via "neither looks good for you." Don't be a know-it-all, you little twerp.
- anime image macro plus derisiveness, again.

yeeeaaaahhh, you bet i'm peeved! This thread was meant for shits and giggles, and hopefully insightful discussion on psychology, cosmology, and whatnot and you blockheads irradiated the fetus before it even left the uterus...good job. If there's a mod lurking, please delete this horrible abortion of a thread right now. Like wow....

>>10
Whoops, I did not mean to reply to you!!

Yes, I'm of the same viewpoint...probably not 100% accurate but definitely holds some degree of influence. Nearly every ancient culture has some amount of literature dealing with the subject, so there must be something to it, as you say.

>a tone of sneering condescension
Well, that's just you. I was saying it in observation of my own habits. I didn't mean it like that, and in fact the next line was supposed to indicate as much. "I'm not trying to bash", I think, is pretty clear.

>probably ripped off of Neil deGrasse Tyson
I came up with that myself, but I'm sure you won't believe me. This is pretty stupid, actually, same with the 'clear' showing of a loathing for hippies. Maybe other people find it funny, I guess I don't.

I'd agree wholeheartedly that it's silly to try and 'convince' people that astrology is wrong, but your responses were sillier. It doesn't really get across you want discussion when you reply with 'sciencefag detected'. Also, I attempted to give some sort of logical argument, to which you assumed I was trying to frame you for something. I guess I mistook you trying to get everyone to 'lighten up' as getting everyone to stop disbelieving, but evidently that was wrong. Looking back I guess that was dumb to assume.

Also, the anime image is from a well known meaningless member. He posts garbage like that all over the site.
