It's pretty easy to tell that some cartoon animals were drawn to be attractive. It's obvious the animators wanted Lola Bunny from the movie "Space Jam" to be attractive. It's also obvious that the developers at Rare wanted Krystal from the Star Fox games to be hot. In short, Most attractive furries were designed to be attractive, so don't blame yourself (or someone else) if you think they can be hot!
Some kids grow up having crushes on cartoon characters, and not all of those characters are human. Sometimes they're animals; to a child, there may be no real difference between human and animal cartoon characters. If it can walk and talk, then to a kid, it's pretty much human. As the child matures and reaches puberty, it's possible that the attraction one feels towards cartoon characters, animal or otherwise, will not diminish, but rather, intensify.
