I don't see how this would fit into any other board, so I only found it appropriate to put it here. How many of you guys like to collect, or atleast find interest in, old coins? Whether they be US, foreign, rare, old ,ect., what is it you like about it? Do you have any rare or cool coins or currency to share?

This is my personal collection. It's not much, but I love them. The coins included are from Japan, China, Germany, France, Britain, Central America, Mexico, Switzerland, and a few other countries. If you have any like them, feel free to share!

(Bad quality)

These are my personal favorites: Coins from Japan. The large ovular one in the middle is a 100 Mon coin. These were made in the Tempo era, around 1830-1870. The front reads "Tempo Tsuho".

The two on the right are Cen coins, which were made in the 1870s, during the Meiji Restoration.

The two on the left are modern Japanese currency. The top one is a 1-Yen coin, while the bottom one is worth 5 yen.

These two, you may not see, but I will get to that in a minute.

The one on the left is a Portuguese 10 Triese coin from 1865. The one on the right is a 10-cash coin from the Republic of China, 1920.

This is what a Portuguese 10-Triese coin looks like. Sadly, they're are not very valuable, like the 100 Mon piece, both only selling for around $20US.

This is the coin from the Republic of China. I've read that Chinese coins are increasing in value. I would expect one like this to be valuable as well.

This coin, from the 1920s, was used by the Republic of China before the Chinese Civil War, in which the Communist eventually won.

These are pretty cool... I've got a bunch of Canadian money laying around, but that's pretty much it.

I find old currency the most interesting usually... Coins and such give you a pretty interesting look into the history and cultures of some places.

I received one of those 50 state quarter collector books for my birthday a few years back and nailed that shit down in like 2 months. Haven't done any coin collecting since, but hey, it's something. This thread has potential. Nice coins, Maru.

also derpy lighting makes the quarters look gold, but I'm cool with that

It's likely a coin from Hong Kong, which was once part of the British empire and even today isn't completely part of China.

Oh cool! I collect loads of coins; foreign, old, even medals and tokens. I think the oldest I've got is a 1934 English penny. Something like that.
