So...How about that snow, guys? (37)

1 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2012-10-24 14:03 ID:4P4q55hJ [Del]

Yeah...I'm surprised this place is even still around, but hey, awesome. Just thought I'd say hello to y'all since I never seem to come by these days. In order to not get this saged, let's talk about...climate.

Northwest US is getting hammered with rain and snow this week. My house got two inches over the past five days, though it's been trying to melt. Summits are getting far more (reported 8-10 inches). Not bad for late October.

Anywho, I was down in town this morning (it's literally an 800 foot difference in elevation) and they were just getting rain. Sucks for them. Still, don't you just love how trees in autumn get so beautiful when wet with rain?

I don't have the snow issue, but I agree with the beautiful trees in autumn rain, so many colors.

I live in Georgia; the leaves jump straight to brown, it's 80-90 degrees all year round, and we get hurricanes.

The sky is always grey, windy, and cold.

I love it so much :3

I love the snow and the rain. All the leaves are dropping up here in VA and it's so beautiful. For those of you who don't know what the weather in VA is like, we have temperatures between 50 and 80 this time of year that don't like to follow reason. It rains a lot but hasn't snowed-yet.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT SNOW

I can't wait for snow to hit us. I want some days off of school...

>>4 If you want the opinion of the people where I live, what we need is past floods post-harvest. Besides, our natural lakes are almost dried up!

Also, holy hell, there's a sage button now!?

8 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2012-10-24 14:58 ID:4P4q55hJ [Del]

>>6 Psh, snow days. Back when I was in high school we would get storms producing 6-12 inches per hour, and they would only cancel school when the power was out for two hours or more at a time.

In college, they did cancel class sometimes, though.

9 Name: Elunore!HIwambGeWE : 2012-10-24 14:59 ID:LjIyg3lI [Del]

>>8 Here they freak out at the slightest bit of snow. It's like if we get an inch, it's a snow day.

10 Name: MKOLLER !YYk5m0jo12 : 2012-10-24 15:02 ID:4P4q55hJ [Del]

>>9 That is bull. An inch isn't even enough to slide around in! I should know; I tried drifting my truck today and the roads were still too clear.

11 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2012-10-24 15:02 ID:Dk+lcUhc [Del]

>>9 We got three days off for the inch of snow we got last year.

I love my school system /o/

>>9 You live in the south, don't you? We used to get all sorts of snow when I lived in Japan, we always went to school there. Unless the buses couldn't make it from the other base, that is. Here if we get an inch or two they shut down everything, we've even gotten out early because it started snowing during school and they were scared we would get in accidents on the way home. Rule of thumb is, it sticks, it's closed.

13 Name: Elunore!HIwambGeWE : 2012-10-24 15:07 ID:LjIyg3lI [Del]

>>12 I live in Maryland, but some kids got stuck in a school for ten hours a few years back and they don't want that to happen again.

14 Name: anubis!AnUBiS6/LQ : 2012-10-24 15:12 ID:XIfuYxFT [Del]

>>13 Ah, I guess that makes a lot of sense. I live in Virginia, which is technically part of the south, and we don't know how to handle snow.

Now that I know what state you live in it'll be so much easier to track you down to participate in that Greek battle.

15 Name: Elunore!HIwambGeWE : 2012-10-24 15:13 ID:LjIyg3lI [Del]

>>14 I've blown my cover D: Maryland's still a big state, though.

>>13 >>12 I live in Jersey :O
When we get a lot of snow, the area can handle it pretty well, but the school system also tends to get really dramatic when there is only a small amount. Everyone around here is sue-happy, so I don't blame them.

17 Name: anubis!AnUBiS6/LQ : 2012-10-24 15:29 ID:XIfuYxFT [Del]

>>15 Relax, I'd just show up, participate in the battle, and disappear, never to be seen again. For years people would go "do you remember that random crazy girl who showed up at the Greek battle?" but no one would know.

>>16 My school once canceled because it was raining really hard.

18 Name: Elunore!HIwambGeWE : 2012-10-24 15:32 ID:LjIyg3lI [Del]

>>17 Was it even flooding? Once the basement(we have classes there) flooded and we couldn't get to the temps outside without wading through puddles up to our ankles.

19 Name: Sleepology !4a6Vun8zuw : 2012-10-24 15:35 ID:77G+ydNX [Del]

I lack snow :/

20 Name: anubis!AnUBiS6/LQ : 2012-10-24 15:40 ID:XIfuYxFT [Del]

>>18 Nope, I think it had something to do with the wind. We don't even have a basement and we only have two buildings that are about 20 feet apart. Plus we're built on a hill uphill from a swamp.

It almost never snows where I am (Dallas), at least in great amounts. When it does though, be certain that people around here will freak the fuck out for no reason whatsoever.

Needs moar precipitation around here, though. Too much sun.

>>24 You mean like when there was an earthquake on the east coast? We now have mandatory earthquake drills and we average one quake every 100 years. We didn't have earthquake drills in Japan, dammit, why do we need earthquake drills here?

26 Name: Elunore!HIwambGeWE : 2012-10-24 16:21 ID:LjIyg3lI [Del]

>>25 We never have earthquake drills where I am. When the earthquake happened, everyone freaked out, started screaming and running down.

In gerogia it could be hot right now or kinda chilly it doesnt realy snow down south

Oh hey, MKOLLER, you're still around /o/
I haven't been around the site much until recently either, so I wasn't sure who still hung around here.

Weird, two other people from Georgia in this thread.
Whenever it snows in georgia it's always some kind of freak occurrence, and they shut down god damned everything because of it.
When they predict it though, it never happens. Predicted heavy snow one time, school got cancelled, and the next day was the sunniest day we had in months.

Anyway, onto snow. Here in south Illinois, we don't have pus schools close due to snow unless there's been a wreck caused by the snow. Or if it's cold enough to actually freeze up engines enough to be unable to start (which hasn't happened, but if it does, they would shut 'er down.)

We've had too much rain this year for there to be much snow. I hope is snows a lot (go sledding and snowmen!), but I doubt it does. Now, if it had been thirty degrees colder when it was raining, we'd have had snow up to our waists on one day where a river raised almost ten feet in one day.
