You Instagrammers know what I'm talking about. Basically, post interesting pictures of clouds that you find.

Reminder: This thread is for CLOUDS ONLY! No real porn allowed on this thread.

I wanted to post on this thread since a lot of time but I kept on failing for posting pictures but now I approximately understood how to do it.. I think-

Today, we have Lenticular clouds. They form when wind blows over across hills and mountains. A lot of them have been mistaken for UFOs in the past.

My ISP flaked out on me during important online tests. The good news is the next full moon is in 4 days. Let us all join forces this April 26th to try out some black magic hexes.

Today's cloud type is... Virga clouds! Not to be confused with the Spanish soundalike verga, virga is rain that doesn't reach the ground. These clouds resemble jellyfishes when isolated but can sometimes take on funnel shapes that look like forming tornadoes.

Today's type is the Mammatus clouds. Idk how common they are but I've seen them twice. Was terrified the first time. They indicate heavy rain, lightning, and sometimes hailstorm.

>>41 Fingers isn't that far off xd. Their name Mammatus comes from mammma, which means udder or breast in Latin.
>>42 Very threatening. It feels like the drops will fall on your head. I could barely look up.

Since yesterday's type was like scary and all, let's look at Rainbow clouds today. Iridescent clouds form due to the diffraction of sunlight in thin mid and high-level clouds. I thought I saw them once but turned out it was just a common rainbow :unamused: :disappointment was immeasurable and day was ruined:

Mackerel sky, mackerel sky – never long wet, never long dry.
Today we are looking at a cloud type that has a rippling pattern similar to fish scales, hence the name. A mackerel sky is made of either middle or high-level cumulus clouds. In weather forecasting, they indicate that a change is likely. Whether it is for better or worse, only time will tell.

47 Name: yubisaki !sk/InHcLP. : 2021-04-26 04:52 ID:fn/1A9ZZ (Image: 1429x2048 jpg, 514 kb) [Del]

This one's not that uncommon. Cirrostratus clouds are very thin, and can be difficult to detect. If thin enough, they can create halos around the sun or the moon.

>>1 Today is a throwback to the post that started it all by Leigha (I might be running a little low on new interesting cloud types... but I think we're good for like 2 more weeks TwT). Cumulonimbus incus, or anvil cloud, is a mature thunderstorm cloud that indicates strong wind, lightning, heavy rain, potential hail, and sometimes even tornadoes.

Today we're looking at an optical illusion called Brocken spectre that casts magnified shadows, sometimes of mountaineers, onto clouds. It was featured in the Skypiea arc of One Piece.

Pyrocumulus clouds, or fire clouds, are associated with volcanic eruptions or fire. They are sometimes accompanied by dry lightning which can start another fire or a firestorm (basically a fire gone so bad that it has its own wind system).

Cirrus spissatus clouds are the highest forming clouds and may sometimes even occur in the lower stratosphere. If you see these, precipitation is likely in the next 15-25 hours.

>>58 Did it? My past of incorrect weather predictions still haunts me T_T

It's raining here right now, so it feels fitting to look at rain clouds today. Nimbostratus clouds are dark, grey, featureless layers of cloud, thick enough to block out the Sun.

These are some of the most uplifting cloud formations that I've found. Cirrus fibratus (fibratus means fibrous). They can indicate an approaching warm front or fair weather.
