This thread was in the "countries" area but someone told me it wasn't suppose to be there. Sorry.
Anyway....

Anyone heard of Sealand?
My friend is obsessed with Sealand and suggested me to watch Hetalia. After watching about 27 episodes (I think) of the anime Hetalia I met Sealand. XD
Anyone here consider Sealand a country?

Some people consider it a country... and I still am thinking if Sealand should be a country or not. What is Sealand to you?

According to Wikipedia, about 27 people live there.
...
Anyone here... lives in Sealand? XD
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Sealand

And no, I do not live in Sealand. I do not even know if people in Sealand have Internet...

In any case, Hetalia is a really funny anime. XD

Now that it's in the proper board.

I've heard of Sealand(the place). It's a neat idea, but I don't think it'd work out well at all.

Sealand is a country whether it's recognized or not. It has already declared its independence as a sovereign state.

Elaborate? What do you mean by it won't work out well? As a country? I am interested. XD

>>3
Some people still do not recognize it as a country. XD
It also has a flag, it's own currency, passport, and stamps... I think it should be a country.

6 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2012-09-10 17:08 ID:yVmSNETe [Del]

>>5 Not should - IS.

Recognized or not, it IS a country. It meets all of the basic technicalities for a country.

I don't see how that's even up for discussion :l

But then again, other countries are all like, "Well we're big and strong and we're not going to pretend that such a tiny thing is on the same level as us!"

>>7 LOL, BarabiSama XD Yup. Though someone told me it was a territory. :/ Someone called Zeckarias said a territory is a sovereign state...

To be more accurate, Sealand is a micronation.
It is not recognized as a country by any existing country, and while you could technically call it either, I doubt many people would honestly call it country, even if it could meet all its needs.

>>9
A micronation... so like a micro country, right?

11 Name: BarabiSama!!C8QPa1Mt : 2012-09-10 17:48 ID:yVmSNETe [Del]

>>9 Pretty much this, I suppose :O Even if it can meet its needs as a country, most people aren't going to accept that because of its size and lack of political influence.

Even if I accept it, most people won't.

That's okay, though. Don't worry! I believe in you, Sealand! /o/

Micronation is the proper term.

13 Name: Yatahaze !E/8OvwUzpY : 2012-09-10 17:51 ID:w9zZJa2s [Del]

That was meant for >>10, of course.

I would totally root for Sealand, but I have 196 countries to keep track of as it is. Fuckin' tough shit, yo.

14 Name: Jywy !fbLUmhdNA2 : 2012-09-10 17:56 ID:oQGk9xYj [Del]

>>12
Well a nation is basically the same thing as a country... so ya. XD I never heard of the term micronation before and my spell check is telling me it's not even a word. -__-

Dang, how many countries are there in the world? O.o 196? What do you mean you have to keep track of them?

15 Name: Jywy !fbLUmhdNA2 : 2012-09-10 17:58 ID:oQGk9xYj [Del]

>>11
I think I shall conclude that Sealand is a country... and wow my Spell Check tells me Sealand isn't a word...

Spellcheck is unreliable. Trust me. I'm a geograFIST.

The United States recognizes these 196 countries in the world:

GeograFIST? Wassthat?
The USA should recognize Sealand...

Mix of the words "geography" and "brofist"

Also, to secede from the US, you have to go to war with it. There was one town that tried this, the US deployed local national guard as a deteerant, the town backed down. I'd think it's work in similar ways with other countries.

But it was unoccupied territory... then a dude named Roy Bates proclaimed it as an independent state. The US didn't own Sealand...

Chances are you're thinking of the micronation Molossia founded by Kevin Baugh in areas of/near the town of Dayton, Nevada.

I have created a legit nation, using legal online databases. It has yet to be recognized on any maps. It is called The Republic Of Seopia. (See-oh-pee-uh)

But, anyway, I consider Sealand as a country. Just because it isn't recognized by many people (Though, Sealand is) it doesn't mean that it's not there.

34 Name: Dux : 2012-09-12 14:03 ID:+CONF2Lp [Del]

It doesn't have a working political system, no decent trade, no culture or language of its own... I don't think it's a country, but if they want to be a country, I'm not gonna forbid. Who am I to do that, anyway?

Explain further if you would like.

SEA-KUN DESU YO~!
I think Sealand could totally be a country, if for no reason other than for giggles. He's an adorable character and the idea of making this naval platform a country is absolutely splendid <3

Also, in Japanese, "desu" (while having no correct English translation) roughly means "it is". What you are saying, if I'm correct, should make absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever.
